Is Mortirolo, Giro stage 20, 2012, a completely new ascent?

The Mortirolo climb of the 2012 Giro d'Italia puzzles me. They usually (always?) climb the Western slope beginning in Mazzo di Valtellina. Approximately the route outlined here, I think:

This year, however, they seem to have chosen another ascent using smaller roads a bit furter south (but still on the western slope). I cant find any of these roads on traffic maps online but it's possible to see some roads on satellite maps. Salite.ch seems to have the graphic of this particular ascent, and they also have a description saying it's paved almost all the way to the top. I've tried to trace a route of this climb but it's quite difficult or even impossible without road maps. Does anyone know the route?

I'm pretty sure, however, that the summit of this year's Mortirolo climb at 1718 m is what we see on this photo (grabbed from Google street view):

The photo shows the view when ascending the regular Mortirolo climb from Mazzo di Valtellina. Hairpin 7 is right ahead, and the road to the right must be the new route they'll be coming from in this year's edition. The two roads joins here at c. 1718 m altitude which fits pretty well with the summit of this year's giro. From this point the riders will descend north towards Grosio.

The climb seems even more brutal than the regular Mortirolo climb even if the don't go all the way to the summit (which wouldn't be possible since they're desending down the same slope). Or am I completely wrong?

I'm moving across the country and have to pare down a lot of stuff. I have a slew of old VHS tapes and some DVDs that need a good home. I'm guessing it would be about $20 to ship in a box. If you're willing to part with that, I'd be happy to take a trip to UPS and send them your way.

What's here? Mostly stuff from the 80's and 90's. I don't have the time to create a list, but you can get somewhat of an idea looking at the picture.

I thought this race might deserve a thread of its own as its probably the strongest field ever seen in Norway except the 1993 WC in Oslo. It's been upgraded to 2.1 this year so 6 WT teams are participating. (GreenEdge, Lotto, Sky, Lampre, Garmin and Saxo). TV2 in Norway will be showing 2 hours live every day so hopefully there'll be some streams out there if anyone wants to give the Giro a little break :)

The full startlist can be found here:

http://www.glavatour.no/no/wp-conten...-pr-110512.pdf

Some notable forum favourites racing are Vanmarcke, Ale-Jet, EBH, Schumacher, the Chicken, Nordhaug, Van Summeren and Nuyens. JTL is also on the startlist but I read on twitter that he is injured and won't start.

Previous winners (before 2011 winners are from Ringerike GP, the predecessor of ToN):

2011	KELDERMAN Wilco
2010	RAKE Christer
2009	FIRSANOV Serguei
2008	ERICSSON Fredrik
2007	BOASSON HAGEN Edvald
2006	RASCH Gabriel
2005	ANDRESEN Are
2004	KANANEN Kimmo
2003	HOLMKVIST Jonas
2002	KAGGESTAD Mads

The parcours doesn't look overly exciting, with three pretty flat stages and a couple that are a bit hilly. Stage 4 from Hamar to Lillehammer looks most promising IMO. Hopefully the race will gets better as it gets a couple of years experience as there are plenty of nice climbs they can use in later editions.

Stage 1: Sandefjord-Tønsberg (185,7 km):

Stage 2: Oslo-Drammen (163 km)

Stage 3: Lillestrøm-Elverum (180 km)

Those roads yesterday were familiar, many of my friends (like me) are heavier, far older, have bad hearts now (or new ones!) and some have moved on to the celestial peloton. Seeing that 2nd stage ride crossing through Boulder Creek and through the Santa Cruz Mountains on television really made me smile. While I wished I was there, I was sure glad to know the roads I saw on the tv yesterday, made me grateful to have grown up there and especially grateful for my bikes over the years taking me to those places. Good times, then and now.

Hello, the situation is that my 11 yr old 9 speed tiagra levers and derailleur are getting a bit old and aren't shifting as well as I'd like so I'm trying to work out what to do for the best to replace them.

I want to keep my chainset though - an ultegra double thats also about 10 yrs old and designed for 9 speed.

I think its worthwhile upgrading to 10 speed now. So the questions are:

1 - Will my existing 9 speed chain run OK on a 10 speed casette?

2 - If it won't, will a 10 speed chain run OK on my 9 speed chainrings?

3 - Therefore, as well as new levers, casette, derailleur do I need a new chain and chainrings?

4 - Shall I just buy a new bike?!

I get the impression that the 10spd chain/9 speed chainrings combo will be generally OK but less sure about the casette.

Any advice appreciated, cheers in advance.

Out of curiosity i checked online today about recovering from blood donation and it appears it take 4-6 or 4-8 weeks for your red blood cell count to return to normal.

Has anyone got any advice on what I can eat, training plans etc to help speed up this process or is there nothing that can be done and it just how long the body takes ?
