So how did Stephen Roche manage to win the Giro and Tour double in 1987. With only eighteen days between the end of the Giro and the start of the Tour there is no way he would of been any where near fully recovered to perform in the Tour and win it. So the question is what drugs did he take. Oh and lets not forget La Plagne and his remarkable recovery to compete the following day.

Specifically it focuses on a single trainer, Doug O'Neill, who's had multiple infractions for dosing his horses yet keeps on coming back and keeps on winning. Made me think of the many team doctors in cycling that bounce from team to team, untouchable and almost invisible.

I was just reading about repoxygen on Wikipedia, and the article said that it wasn't detectable. The most successful drug cheats are often said to be "ahead of the game", taking the newest drugs before they are testable. Ricco famously thought that there was no test for CERA in 2008.

So I was wondering - which other drugs can't be tested for at the moment?

In the Clinic, Armstrong fanboys come and go, but Polish endures, not simply tolerated but recognized as a forum treasure. Why? What’s the secret of his success?

Unlike other highly successful posters, Polish did not show promise at a young age. He was always good in one-day arguments, but was never able to perform in Grand Discussions. But suddenly, there he was, battling with seasoned veterans in the Clinic, day after day, recovering in seemingly miraculous fashion to take each new stage of the topic. How could someone undergo such a dramatic transformation?

Is it because he trains harder than other posters, even typing on the keyboard when he's offline? Is it the laser-like focus of his posts? Perhaps because other fanboys do all the work to bring the subject of discussion up to the last obstacle in the argument, where Polish then cuts loose and drops all his adversaries? Does he use high cadence on the keyboard? Does he have access to banned information that other posters don’t have? Could it be that he has the secret protection of higher-ups in the Clinic, like Hog, RR and Maserati? Is it true that Susan dismissed a forum violation in return for payment? Has he done too much good for too many posters?

CN´s article mentions corticoid tests, Charteau maybe being positive.

Older French rider, and French riders of his generation love this stuff. But as usual, no problem, normally you send your TUE afterwards, and get cleared.

It´s a minor issue. 60-80 percent of the French, and probably other nations, have their TUE, many others take their corticoids from time to time.
Just basic treatment, this corticoids, and Synacthene. The real differences are made by blood infusions and EPO.

Business as usual. Great M.P.C.C. . War against doping by fighting against corticoids. Just like hoping to cure cancer by prescribing vitamin pills.

Does the word "doping" need any classification or modification?

I tend to think of the big dividing line as the differences between the "Stimulant Era" (caffeine, amphetamines, phen phen, etc).

and the "Hormone Era" (Testosterone, HGH, Oxygen vectors such as EPO, CERA, etc). And I think some hormones such as (testosterone) acted as a bridge of sorts.

I think pre 1990's, it's easy to say that many (if not most) pro riders engaged in some form of Stimulant-Era practice. Heck, I remember winning cases of "Up-time" (usually sold to truckers in conveninece stores) at the velodrome as prizes. Riders were always looking for some little-white-lie of an advantage over their peers. A caffeine pill here, some calcium pangamate (B-15) there. Alexi Grewal shoving Chinese endurance pills into his plums (and getting caught), etc.

The Era of HGH, Testosterone, EPO was a huge difference in practice. This was a BIG mental "step-up" from popping stimulants. Big change in performance too.

Of course, the stigma of the one-brand-fits-all... "Dopers" prevents many retired riders from even talking about the stimulant era with more honesty.

So, is a "doper a doper"?

I couldnt quite believe that on British Eurosport we had about an hour run up to the Giro with Senor Contador. Isnt he banned for DOPING !!!!

.....and here we have an in depth interview which lets us see how he is spending his time during suspension.

Which other sport would ignore that this is a sportsman banned for doping ??? and yet Eurosport give hime prime spot for the 1st stage of the Giro.

Why is he different from any other rider serving a ban ??? its just more 'cloak and dagger' for the sport and Eurosport cozying up to Senor Contador.

and for ref. i like contador but this doesnt do anything for the sports reputation. If any joe bloggs switched on eurosport - they would say who's this guy then ? 'oh he's banned for doping'.
