    Giro d'Italia Giro d’Italia 2024, Stage 7: Foligno – Perugia, 40.6k (ITT)

Wondering how Sheffield will do, good chance of podium.

    Tadej Pogacar and Mauro Giannetti

Just because you’re a huge Sagan fan doesn’t make him as ridiculous of a climber as Van Aert. But actually, Van Aert is probably a bit more unexpected imo.

Giro d'Italia Giro d’Italia 2024, Stage 6, Torre del Lago Puccini (Viareggio) – Rapolano Terme, 180km

I think there’s definitely instincts that riders have in the moment that might be impossible for fans to see, but also the inverse of fans seeing the obvious writing on the wall better than riders at times. I think he was just on the limit with a fast approaching peloton and hadn’t raced a lot...

    General News Thread

Sometimes it’s better to not know. As much as I loved watching Phelps go all 8 for 8 in Beijing back then, it’s true some sports are too bloated. I guess some would say cycling doesn’t need 90+ riders for a single event though. The Olympics is too much of a production for me to get worked up...

    General News Thread

You’d think there would be a guaranteed spot for the defending champion at least… I’m too lazy to look up the eligibility rules again but is it that all road/track cycling disciplines have a single quota between them all? Shouldn’t Ecuador have multiple spots regardless?

Teams & Riders Tadej Pogačar discussion thread

Definitely. What was their intent though?

    Giro d'Italia Giro d’Italia 2024, Stage 7: Foligno – Perugia, 40.6k (ITT)

I’m also not sure it will be a complete demolition. UAE’s time trialing has stepped up this year and the climb finale obviously suits Pogacar. But I still expect Thomas and some others to be on par for the flat portion and do well on the climb. A lot will depend on pacing.

    Giro d'Italia Giro d’Italia 2024, Stage 7: Foligno – Perugia, 40.6k (ITT)

From @Devil's Elbow again: Stage 7: Foligno – Perugia, 40.6k (ITT) The second-longest TT of the year (yes, really), and it’s not a flat one either. In other words, this is definitely the most important GC day in the first half of the race. The route The start is from Foligno, a...

Giro d'Italia Giro d’Italia 2024, Stage 6, Torre del Lago Puccini (Viareggio) – Rapolano Terme, 180km

Has to feel bad for Alaphilippe just missing out on an increasingly rare opportunity. Exciting stage, not a single bad one yet.

Giro d'Italia Giro d’Italia 2024, Stage 6, Torre del Lago Puccini (Viareggio) – Rapolano Terme, 180km

Pogacar can use this stage to make the TT harder tomorrow.

Giro d'Italia Giro d’Italia 2024, Stage 6, Torre del Lago Puccini (Viareggio) – Rapolano Terme, 180km

The crash/flat risk is way overstated. I expect this to be one of the best stages of the race.

Giro d'Italia Giro d’Italia 2024, Stage 6, Torre del Lago Puccini (Viareggio) – Rapolano Terme, 180km

From @Devil's Elbow‘s write-up: Stage 6: Torre del Lago Puccini (Viareggio) – Rapolano Terme, 180.0k “Can we have a sterrato stage in the Giro this year?” “We have a sterrato stage at home!” The sterrato stage: The route Look, I know I have a reputation for complaining too much...

    Giro d'Italia Giro d‘Italia 2024, Stage 5, Genova-Lucca, 178 km

This tour just keeps delivering. Now a smattering of almost guaranteed exciting stages through the weekend as well.

    Giro d'Italia Giro d‘Italia 2024, Stage 5, Genova-Lucca, 178 km

We’d see a different type of rider dominating in a GT of 21 mountain/hilly stages I think, more of an ultramarathon type than what we have now. An even more endurance version of Vingegaard.

    Giro d'Italia Giro d‘Italia 2024, Stage 5, Genova-Lucca, 178 km

These sprint stages are nice for keeping me on task at work, can’t complain too much.

The much needed UCI loller thread

Not a fan of the UCI but you have to enforce rules otherwise things can turn into a mess quick. Even if he did it for a good cause, having a special set of rules for certain riders isn’t a good look either. If the organizers really gave him those shorts instead of pink it seems their fault though.

    Eurosport commentary

I may be in the minority but I very rarely have issues with any commentators. I don’t mind Blythe and I get a kick out of Kirby especially during boring parts of stages. People seem to like to rail on commentators as a hobby regardless of the sport.

    Tadej Pogacar and Mauro Giannetti

I don’t follow closely but I think they’re getting a bit away from the HGH gut these days. Peak size was Ronnie Coleman around 15 years ago then peak gut with the Phil Heath era 5-10 years ago and now it seems attention is less focused on the bloated gut look. The “physique” competitors look...

Teams & Riders Tadej Pogačar discussion thread

Perceptions of Vingegaard are probably a bit outdated. He’s had a very different style in the last year or so. Although he does seem a lot more calculated and sparing.
