If you follow all the technicalities, the $10 increase violated a provision from 2011 that was supposed to prevent fee increases. Forget that those of us who buy the duck stamp do it gladly and voluntarily, and know that at $15, it hasn’t kept up with the rate of inflation. It was time to raise the cost of the stamp. But the no-new-taxes faction of the Congress used it as their lever to kill the entire Sportsmen’s Act, which would have been the biggest public-lands bill in a generation.
Never, ever let pragmatism and cooperation get in the way of ideological purity.

Exactly. Our entitlements can't do with one penny less. Not one.

One would think you'd be thrilled with the outcome, but then you are impossible to please.

Who would have thunk the R's would cater to the CBD and Humane Society?

It's a fee, Scott. A voluntary payment that hunters were willing to pay more for. Rs said no, because it increases government revenues. So they scrapped the entire bill over a $10 voluntary fee increase on a stamp.

I guess you missed that part about Obama saying he was willing to negotiate on entitlements? That both spending cuts and increasing taxes have to be part of the package? That's called being pragmatic. Still waiting for Rs to put taxes on the table. That's called being ideological.

Maybe we could start by cutting that blue slice in half, eh?

Right

So, maybe you can enlighten me on Obama's spending and entitlement cuts? Details?

We all know the details on revenue increase but, oddly, I've seen no details on the cuts. Did I miss those?

I think that might have fixed the whole debt problem.

Better idea. Cut all of it. Fear not.

By cutting all of that blue slice we will cut last years deficit nearly in half. Probably ought to eliminate that orange slice too. That leaves us about $100 billion in the whole still. Maybe we could just stiff our creditors like GM did... then we'd have a surplus again.

There, it's fixed.
