Default World's in USA

I just read that Louisville and USA Cycling had to step in to make for a $250K shortfall because a major sponsor failed to come up with promised $$. More striking is that they have sold only 2500 tickets! Unless that dramatically improves this will be the last World's held in the US. Let's face it, the US is not, nor will it be ever be, receptive to the great sport of cross or for that matter any cycling event. Americans just don't get it and never will. That's my pessimistic take on it.

Amazing - less than a month to go yet no details on whether the worlds will be broadcast or webcast in the USA.

I sent two emails to the address on the official web site but zero response.

Just read that only Belgium and US will be there with a full squad. The cost is too high for most of the 2nd and 3th tier riders.

The French, Dutch and Swiss teams are supposed to be sending full contingents.

^^ great news

So: which non-Belgian riders to expect?
Van Der Haar, for sure.
Fontana is good on this kind of courses too.
I guess Jeremy Powers will be up there.
And how about Mourey?

I think you may not be aware of how much USA Cycling/UCI drive away sponsors. Both parties essentially tax sponsorship deals and are extremely difficult to deal with.

On top of that, USAC/UCI don't have any interest in mass participation. Really, they don't. Tthe three(?) largest cyclocross events in terms of spectators and participants are not UCI/USAC sanctioned for very good reasons.

IMHO, World's happening in the U.S. is the end of a promotional deal that the UCI set up. The U.S. was granted quite a few international-level race classifications for races that, frankly, had no business being promoted to that level over the last 5 years or so. As the promotional deal has come to an end, so has high-level classification of a number of races.

I don't think it's quite the failure you make it out to be because we're not in Belgium/Netherlands where it's got a bigger audience. Just understand USAC/UCI is a big part of the problem.
