It's more than that. This initial story is a way of breaking the bad news gently, a little at a time. Give a little hint now, let the shock wear off, let people accept it -- and then a bit later comes the confession and reincarnation of LA 3.0.

There's a whole 'nother public he's going after. The hardcore cyclists are a lost cause and he'll never get them back. He's after the much larger mainstream public - the ones who aren't paying close attention now but will be doing charity triathlons and buying his products 5 years from now.

This is a very astute observation and correct.

Lance will only ever do what's good for himself. If there was a $3m prize pool at the end of an admission he'd do it. If there was a eBay store for selling your own Mother for 5m he'd do it.

He does not do things out of goodwill or remorse.

Tygert will only accept an admission from Armstrong if a) it implicates the UCI and b) provides information on Ferrari.

Thus I cannot see Lance selling in Michiele.

Pat and Hein, yes, but not Shumi.

Secondary to all of this is the legal aspects. They are complex. Any admission may expose himself too much to further litigation, perjury and destroy his position in any further cases Federally. That's a big risk.

Finally. Mrs. A is right. He should not be trusted. He lies, steals, berates, chastises and commited fraud against anyone who didn't protect the lie for over 20 years. He also compounded the doping culture in the sport. Even at Comeback 2.0 he was makings a mockery of anti-doping with Catlin etc. further destroying anti-doping and the sport.

If McQuaid was right about one thing it was "Lance Armstrong has no place in cycling".

Now triathlon maybe a different story. Although I believe the tide has turned and there is no benefit for the sport of Tri employing him. They don't need to.

In my own opinion. Now is not the time to let your guard down. Now is not the time for forgiveness. We should be just as robust as we were during his cycling career and comebacks etc. with this p1sswewk attempt at a confession.

If Floyd, Tyler et al have the courage to tell ther stories to family and the world in person then this big buffoon should man up and do the same. Leaking press stories and using Graham Watson to write blogs is just as a pathetic as his entire career.

The man is weak and a nobody. Obscurity is the best place for him.

However he'll definitely have to pay SCA, Sunday Times and may have to settle other court cases too.
It'll probably hit his wallet hard in the short run, so don't know whether he'll be up for it.

I'm going to laugh when Lance confesses, then pops a positive in his first race back.

I agree with Betsy. Lance is a scumbag. No way should this turd ever compete again. He's a complete and utter POS.

Shortly Lance will have to testify under oath to the Feds. This is weak attempt to get the most from that confession

well, Lance thought right. A considerable percentage is. The world of cycling and the Legend of Bagger Lance provide excellent cases in point.

This.

Don't ever see a true confession. This is just a trial balloon to gauge how successful a parsed and vague confession could be for him.

Thank-you.

Sadly JV has OD'ed on the kool aid over Christmas.

"@Vaughters: Despite our many differences over the years, if @lancearmstrong is truly coming forward, I have to respect it."
