Yep. And after all the grief Carlton Kirby gets on this forum who'd have thought it?

And the Accent Jobs rider congratulating him afterwards who seems even more thrilled than he is.

He's always been praised for his enthusiasm and ability to call a finish.

What he gets critisced for - his knowledge was pretty apparent even in the final 2 mins of the video there.

I mean he thinks Iljo was caught ffs, and has to be corrected by Smith

i was watching it live and i thought he was caught as well

from the aerial view as the bunch went into the last corner you could see that there was a rider stopped on the side of the road as the bunch came through

only after the camera zoomed in could you tell that it was an astana rider

That's the beauty of the call by Kirby that he was calling it as a regular fan would have seen it - he thought he'll be caught 'cause it's what happen most of the time, but he was glad he was wrong! Epic any way you want to see it!

I think most people were fooled by the other rider on the side of the road. Great call and great finish. I was very happy to see him win.

“When I was in the lead at the Tour of Turkey [stage 7 - ed], Kurt van Roosbroeck - a soigneur who was at that fatal Giro - drove beside me. “He shouted: ‘Come on, mate. Hang in there, mate. Believe it, mate.’” he laughed. “He did that because the end of each sentence sounded like Wouter. Without saying his name, I felt Wouters presence. A few months ago I found those things difficult, now it does me good.”

Well, the shouting was probably in Dutch, but I can't think of a plausible translation to Dutch that makes it sound like 'Wouter', but maybe someone else can.
