Default elevation charts online creator

First of all, hello guys :-)
I'm a web programmer and I would like to share a little tool I created.

It's an easy way to create and print an elevation chart for any route you can set up.

I created it last year and used by some italian amateur for planning cycling/bicycling and routes also for running/walking routes.

The english (USA) version is here: http://paooolino.altervista.org/elevation-chart/

Path lengths are written in km/metres, I don't know how uncomfortable is for USA-users. I'll of course convert it in miles if anyone will ask for.

if you wanna try it, comments and advices are welcome!

Is it possible to "bread crumb" a trail? I ride mostly Mtn and am usually off the beaten path. How can I adjust the route to fit my actual ride. The map always picks the best route, not necessarily my route.
Still cool!

Giuseppe,
you can set up to 10 markers to adjust your route, not just the end and the start.

Between each marker the map calculates always the best path, but you can set the markers strategically in order to set up the route you are looking for.

I hope to have understood your question. Let me know if it fits your needs.

Paolo

Paolo,

Fired you off a PM because I was looking for something like this mapping. One question some other people might wonder is about having more than 10 pins? I know for my local routes I'd want at least 20.

It would be possible to have more than 10 pins.

I should modify the code to workaround the google map limit of 10 per call. It would not be so hard but it will require some time for me.

I'll notify writing in this thread when ready :-)

Thanks, got it and it works much better, but 20 pins would also be great!

Nice.

I have some suggestions.

I use online mapping software to create indoor ride simulations. Currently use Classic Map My Ride for that as it's the only one I can seem to download elevation data from.

1. needs a lot more way points than 10. I couldn't map most routes I'm interested with only 10 way points.

2. like to be able to control whether to use auto-routing or manual routing.

3. can the segment resolution be finer than 1/100th of distance being mapped?

4. can the chart do colour coded gradient indication?

5. can the distance and elevation data be made available for download, in say a csv file?

6. editing - would be nice for the mapping window to be larger/scalable and for the pointer icon to change so you can be more precise about where to start/end a ride (e.g. when mapping a time trial course, you want to be as precise as you can).

Don't want much, do I?
