Today both Ballan and Cancellara have announced that they won't be there. Ballan has a herpes/mono-type virus and must have absolute rest for 20 days, and Cancellara said he isn't sufficiently recovered from his training crash injury to play a significant role in the race.

No Ballan for Flanders and probably Roubaix! Big shame.

This year MSR is looking like it'll be a sprinter victory, as long as the teams can keep it under control though.

if herpes/mono is the full extent of the curse, then ballan gets off lightly.

The latest I heard is that F. Schleck's out as well. He fell during a training ride and is injured (chin stitched and left wrist bruised)

CSC have a pretty strong team for SR I think with Kroon, Arvesen, O'Grady and Bresschel...

Itīs a pity, that World Champion Alessandro Ballan is not able to race those spring classic races. I would like to see him win Paris-Roubaix!

No Ballan and a half Cancellara for Roubaix? They might as well give the victory to Boonen without riding it. What a pitty.

Maybe. If Cancellara then works for O'Grady it may be interesting.

Zabel has been working with Cav all season, including twice riding the last 100k of this weekend's race with him.

Young Cav seems to be soaking it all in - which is great. I think you can clearly feel the difference in his tone (in the article), stating things like "I got the impression I can win it in the future, but maybe not this year..." and "Three hundred kilometers at 23 is a long way. MSR is one of the biggest races I the world and I have to show the respect it deserves".

Looking forward to seeing the fruits of Zabel's labor.
