Two things happened. Boom always sprints on too small a gear, and (more importantly) he probably already spent his energy on his jump from the peloton to the front group.

i think boom was happy with 3rd as well. he was able to increase the distance a bit, so that the difference between the 3 and the rest of the bunch was not affected.

if i have to choose between the two, then it would have been option 2.
But, I stil feel that he got his advantage in GC.

Did you even watch the sprint?

First he has to bridge to gap to the first 3. There both Stybar and Richeze are mooching of Roelandts. Then Roelandts stops, so Boom has to go because otherwise the group would be caught by the peloton (thinking about precious GC seconds).

So how the hell should he have won when he is the one who leads out the sprint with two guys on his wheel that are relativly fresh????
