Damn, I didn't know I was breathing incorrectly all these years.
Never knew the limiting factor was how much air you could take into your lungs.
that technique must overcome the limitation.
Thanks Lance, high cadence, weight loss, FRS, focus, and now blowing your belly up. Is Lim putting ice on your nut too?

Most amature riders do not know how to maximize their air intake, so you probably aren't breathing incorrectly; just not optimized. You can mock the response I gave all you want; but, that is most likely what it is.

What part of "Never knew the limiting factor was how much air you could take into you lungs." did you not understand?

Actually, you're wrong. Most experts believe our natural way of breathing is "belly breathing" and it's not something you have to think about and practice.
Mostly it has to do with relaxation rather than tensing up.
relaxing like it's taught in tai chi is very important in many sports, especially combat sports. Most people are so tense they waste a lot of energy.

Apparently, neither do most professional cyclists either, based on the ample photographic evidence.
That, or they simply have less between their diaphragm and their jersey....

Actually, I am correct. Yes, belly breathing is natural. Do a little more research and you will understand why natural belly breathing is not optimized. Carmichael taught me TRUE Diaphramatic breathing in the late 80's and it makes a big difference. Again, a little more research and all you armchair riders might give it a go.

Just out of curiosity, but does anyone have a recent picture of Lance upright and looking fat? Or even on a road bike as opposed to down in the TT position?
His gut pretty much always looked big in TT's... right? I mean here's an image from the discovery days... and it looks about the same to me.
It was even there during the USPS days too:

Well, THAT explains a few things. Better get Chris on the horn to these amateurs then:

Were you underage and did he give you any corticosteroid injections while lying to you about what was in the syringes?
