The article completely avoids the discussion of fairness towards female athletes. Based on anecdotal and scientific evidence it should be very clear now that trans athletes have a physiological advantage compared to biological female athletes. An article that sidesteps this issues is far from balanced.

The article makes no claim to investigate the rights and wrongs of trans participation: it is about the prospect of protests. It doesn't present reasons to assume that trans women can participate fairly either. It is balanced within the scope it seeks to address.

Yes this article narrows its scope down to the point of being irrelevant. This is the equivalent of talking about protests being held at the World Cup in Qatar while not touching on the human rights situation. And in a way it could still be ok for a journalist to take this approach. However when a lot of articles on this subject avoid talking about the core issue of fair competition the whole discussion suffers from a lack of fair and balanced journalism.

That is not "advocating for (sic) men stealing the sporting opportunities of women", nor does it amount to a "gaslighting article". One article cannot be condemned for the perception that "a lot of articles on this subject avoid talking about the core issue".
