You don't have to. When Standard Chartered put their name on Liverpool's jersey they didn't need to have the FA, UK Sport, any of that explained to them. Their only interest is in delivering the PR.

And for all that people will insist doping is the reason the plug was pulled, can anyone point to any reliable metrics saying that put people off Sky as a brand in any way? Yes, Brailsford's once lauded 2020 Vision thing looks even less likely to be achieved today, but where's the evidence of damage to the corporate brand?

Bolder wrote:Doping or not, I'm sure that Sky/Comcast's internal metrics found that they had squeezed every last bit of value from the sponsorship. But, I don't discount at all that Froome's AAF made the decision to pull the plug very easy internally. How do you explain the UCI/WADA to to a board of directors?

The high cost of large severance payments for ex-employees, Froome’s defense bill, Wiggins fallout PR took its toll. Cheating became too expensive for Sky. Freeman’s suspension coming up soon would have been the last straw. Best to get ahead of the curve and let Wiggins and co. fight it out in the media.

Now all theses crappy doms who thought they had talent will be really crap and have to take a 20% pay cut at their next team - if they can find a next team.

Nothing to party about here.

No-one found guilty.

All the dirty doctors, DSs etc from one of the most successful teams will have no problem taking their trade elsewhere.

I understand and share your reservations to some degree, but I prefer to see the glass half full, this time. There were aspects about the operations of Sky that set it apart from other teams in the World Tour, even if Clinic-type concerns with cycling were/are not confined to Sky. And not all doctors associated with Sky are getting away without penalties -- e.g., Leinders and Freeman. There is enough taint on Sky now that not everyone associated with the organization has a guarantee of moving laterally in cycling to another team with the same amount of influence as before. Cycling will continue to have its issues, but Sky will not be riding as a unit, and I'm happy about that.

Some people do seem intent on setting themselves up for a fall. The assumption that the project is ended and the personnel will be dispersed is ... optimistic. Still, six months from now, if a new sponsor is announced, these assumptions will be overlooked and reality spun into a new narrative...

What's really, really hilarious of course is that there's some people more willing to believe a real estare agent with no experience can launch a Sky-level Chinese team than are willing to believe that Brailsford can secure fresh funding.

Maybe Floyd's of Leadville could step in, if the cannabis business in the U.S. continues to take off. :D

This is likely one of the few times anyone is going to say Thank you to Comcast.

like Quikstep did in every one day race? they were looking for a sponsor too.

check their spring one day and stage wins, some of them in a row. some in the same day in different races

That will lead to a LOT more bad PR that will not help getting a sponsor.

the best result for a sponsor is winning the race

Anyone on a Sky team in major races will be sought after by other teams. Everyone knows what they are capable of.

Lotto-Jumbo-Blanco (former Rabo-fail) says hi

TrekSegafredo (former Radioshack and Lance´s team) says hi

they will get bad PR here in the Clinic if the win.

out there you need to win to get a sponsor (Quickstep smashing the 2018 and finding a sponsor)

If you remember, Quickstep had a hard time finding a new sponsor at a lower budget level. Sky will have even bigger issues finding a sponsor at their current budget level. At a lower level it is much more likely.

They are capable off on rocket fuel and the latest motor.

No one did well away from Sky.

McLaren joing bahrain merida is so obviously motor doping, imo.
