Returning to the recorrent theme: the 41 cyclists tested yesterday were once more tested after the end of today stage. Is now known that this operation was planned well before the start of the race by the anti-doping agencies of Portugal and Spain and the UCI.

Since there is little way to separate clinic issues from the from the Volta may I suggest that we never say the word doping and instead use metaphors and code words. Kind of like the Seinfeld episode The Contest.

Its there, its unspoken, its punished if spoken of, and most in the Volta are doing it.

And he's gone thermonuclear.

Big Raul certainly showed all those small mountain goats how to climb - " thermonuclear" :D

Why are they only targeting the Portugese teams for " thermonuclear" ? (or should that be "fissionable material"?)

Raul Alarcon climbed today Penhas de Saude (12,5 km@7,5%) in 33 min 48 sec. Around 6.1 w/kg. It's a world class performance.

Raul Alarcon with same w/kg as Quintana in stage 17 of the TDF. What a wonder of the world

He (and rest of the field) is considerably weaker than the last year. Is it because of extreme heat or controls?

Dude I'm surprised you can even get up a hill in this heat. To do 6.1 w/kg as well is insane

But, as far as I know, the main reason that the clinic and RR forum is separated is to avoid clinic related fights in race threads. However, I am pretty sure that nobody will start a fight in a Volta thread as everybody knows what's going on, and just enjoys the show.

One thing that I strongly disagree is, a large group of people also thinks pretty much everyone in TDF or in any WT race is doped to the gills, and the threads are usually filled with subtle clinic posts whenever an outstanding move happens. Then, why not move these threads to the clinic?

Agreed here. What I saw on La Rosiere or Jafferau stages were just plain ridiculous.
I think it's the sign of a clean rider and a real sportsman to be attracted to the bigger challenge over the ultimate result. Good luck with the Giro/Tour double, Chris Froome. -Phil Gaimon

its the story of the rich and the poor. the poor dont need to get caught with drugs to everybody be suspicious about him damaging its reputation, while the rich can even be caught with a ridiculous amout of forbiden substances without any consequences

Yes Volta is the poor. you have NOTHING to acuse, but its always cool to lift suspicions, and the mods follow the wagon

the AD agencies are doing their work, if anyone gets caught, i have absolute certain, the rider/s WILL be punished. unlike others

Why is this threat in the clinic? Isn't it a race like others?

The point of the post was that trying to keep up with the Volta animals will leave them destroyed and unable to perform at l'Avenir. We've seen many from overseas coming in not quite prepared for what to expect, commenting on the brutality of the pace at the Volta. Samitier and Barceló are impressive young climbers that many have hopes for. But trying to keep pace with Balarcón in August is only liable to create an Elofsson/Mühlegg reprise.

DING DONG

Possible positive control at the Volta. According to the portuguese newspaper ABola, the rider should have been notified of the result yesterday or today, and should be prevented to take the start of the race today.
