I thought this was an AFL thread not a 'bashing one sport to make the other sound good thread'

i don't mind adelaide united (tho I always liked roar, not because they own but because since the start the have played at the best football, the only difference this season was that they scored. But tehy also really upped a level this year, were awesome to watch.) I f**kn hate victory so damn much. If i had the oppurtunity I would slap muscut and thompson in the face. I really dislike that team..

I do like hearts tho, mainly because my mate plays for them.

anyway was pretty happy with carlton losing :D
top 4 is a real chance now as the highest team we have to play this season is fremantle :)
what a turn around, also i cant stand carlton. or the bombers and pies. they all suck.

while carlton have pies, hawks and a bye.

I hate Victory as much as I hate collingwood - if not more....I didnt mind Qld but Im so cut up that Travis has left so Im guessing I gotta like Perth now :( We got Bruce back and Vidosic is a class signing. FFA is screwing the competion with its small cap cause we are losing quaitly like Marcos Flores (cries!:()

Ive had a soft spot for the Eagles for a while now so its good to see them back on top. Im afraid collingwood will run away with it but at last the race for the bottom half of top four is getting interesting.......somthing to look foward to seeing we are struggling so badly :(

I'm surprised you love the NFL given the widespread use of products that we can discuss in the Clinic

I think this problem has more to do with the society and moral in the decling western civilizations, but it surly has nothing to do with the beautiful game itself. BTW, the 1st world champs of our country (1954) in the World Cup all got Hepatitis (sharing the same needle at the finals halftime) and suffered afterwards. That might have been the first big soccer clinic scandal...

Only that soccer found a way to throw everything under the carpet (see Fuentes, Festina, Juventus, Argentina 78 and all the other game bribing scandals, the big time corruption etc.) doesn´t mean they are an inch better than other sports. Sorry man, the other way around is true: Soccer is the most dirty sport there is. May only cricket comes close. You certainly ride the wrong horse with your love for soccer ...

i liked you guys when you had burns and bruce djite.
Also your bad A$s defence back in the day was epic :D
Matthew Leckie was also a gun, super quick.

he apparently retired before last season only to come back (i was gutted, thought I'd seen the last of that dog). So even tho he is retired now, he knows.

I cannot stand the guy. I'm sure he is a magpies fan considering how he acts :D

See Dippa's effort in a grand final with a punctured lung and broken ribs. Current bunch are fairies by comparison. the AFL ruined the Game - ripped it's heart out for money. Granted, the same can be said of football...
Still is a far more exciting game than Soccer. It is just mundane and boring. Give me 300km of flat cycling over Soccer every day. I do agree that things have become a bit softer in the AFL but one thing that is starting to turn me off is the amount of 'cheap shots' that players do. tbh, I don't watch AFL as much as I used to. Even local footy is not fun to watch because of the amount of thuggery and punch ups you see. It is a contact sport but some of the things you see are horrifying.

Finally I agree with ACF94 :D Don't know about Biggest and Best though? What's that premiership count again?

Well I think the Goal kicking hasn't necessarily improved but overall the game is a lot faster which means skills have to be a lot sharper. Ultimately I think skills are better but it is hard to compare era's. If seeing bodies collide makes things better 20 years ago then we obviously have different views of the game.

Biggest club definetly. Best? May I remind you of the 1979 GF that Collingwood was robbed of?

Obviously we have different views... you're Carringbush, I'm Carlton. :D

The point I was making re: the brutality of today's football, is that they may have been more brutal 20 years ago from a thuggery POV, but today's footballers are more skilled AND hit harder, within the current rules. Some of the players of today wouldn't have survived 20 years ago, but, as you say, difficult to compare eras. The guns will adapt to any era though. Hopefully Juddy will adapt to your midfields holding and scragging on Sunday?

And thanks for reminding me of 1979... can you just clarify that one for me? Was that the one where Harmesy hit the ball back into play, from just inside the boundary? To "Bomba" Sheldon in the goalsquare? :D

In your dreams fanboy, Juddy will be too busy looking for a free kick from the umpires. Last years Brownlow was an absolute farce.

Regarding Harmesy, clearly out of play, don't get me started!

I'll be sure to post a picture of the Juddmiester wearing Charlie No. 3 around his neck in September! :p

And don't be too precious ACF... I'm no fanboy... Too old for that... I'm a realist. The Bluebaggers season is heading for the toilet... We won't get within 10 goals of your boys Sunday. But if that Joffa Corfe clown starts that Collingwood chant prior to half time, then, I won't be so happy.

And I'm sure Harmsey was just inside the line...:D

few close battles

11 Jul 2011 07:28

There have been relatively few close games this year (that is unless you are a "Cats" fan), which is a shame.

Although the "Pies" may have owned North on the weekend, it does little for the game when there is such a huge margin.

While I (hopefully) anticipate a Pies flag this year I am also wishing for some close fought, quality battles.

I loved Burnsey and Matty - total silk the pair of them'

our backline is always maligned and everyone loves to bag them as far as supporters go.....especally Cornthwaite...only Eugene is liked in defence (or Cassio when he plays there!)

oh Sunday will be fun!!!! A few weeks ago Carlton supporters were asking who they would prefer to play in the Grand Final. How arrogant?!

Coooooooollllllllliiiiiiiinnnnngwoooooood!!

Judd would of only just been in the top 10 players of last year imo. It just proved the fact that he pays the umpires money.

I'd thought I found somewhere to talk footy without Pies fans!!! :p Seriously, I over hating Colingwood...just one of the 'meh' teams now. Having to deal with the media saturation of all things crows & power I hate them more. both clubs scream arrogance whenever they open their mouths!

Arrogant... from a Collingwood supporter?? BWahHaHa. The MCC members reserve has never been the same since we let the vile Carringbush filth in. You still haven't given me the flag count?

No... He won... and he got the girl :D

Not you too Ferminal!!! Geebus... Paying umpires to win a Brownlow in this day and age... yeah right? Makes up for the one they took off Diesel!

Never heard of John Wren of Carringbush fame? And one reason (there are many!) why everyone (bar Collingwood supporters) hates the Pies?

John Wren - And the hated Carringbush...

Collingwood has always been hated, by opposing teams, loathed even. Who can remember a time that they weren't. They dominated the VFL post WW1 era. But wasn't soley that they did. But how they did. It stems from how they came to dominate. By buying and paying players more than anyone else could. Which was fair enough back then. However what wasn't so above board was where money came from.

One John Wren a patron of the CFC. Godfather of Melbourne's first true organized crime gang slash mafia. Who had more control over over Collingwood and the surrounding area's than the Carlton crew could have ever dreamed of having. With name's such as stand over man Squizzy Taylor on his payroll.

Most of his money coming thru his illegal totalisator actions. One of his den's became know simply as the tote. This would go a long way to explaining why CFC has always been hated. There is a book on it power without glory about his life. By Frank Hardy. It is not all nessasarily true. Frank used much creative freedom. Of John Wren's nature however there is no doubt, not a man to cross. And so the criminal element has always been there. An the hate has been passed down thru generation's, til many just hate without even knowing why?
