Trump is, as it were, a personification and distillation of all the evils of neoliberal capitalism, all the decadence, the corruption, the awe-inspiring greed and misanthropy, the savage disregard for humanity and all things living in the cause of a debased and orgiastic self-glorification whose telos is the self-immolation of civilization itself.
A nice turn of phrase.
Nancy Pelosi is wrong: it isn’t just one or a few districts we’re talking about, it’s a nationwide groundswell of activism against the kind of politics she symbolizes, namely obedient service to the corporate sector. She and her fellow decaying sacks of skin at the summit of the centrist power-hierarchy are on their way out, both politically and, happily, even existentially.
That part did not age well considering Hoyer's hospitalization. I don't think the phenomenon is as widespread as the author thinks, although more than Pelosi let on. Lumping in Ben Jealous with Ocasio is the part that I disagree with. The 'establishment' candidate that he beat was a county exec in PG county and former member of the state legislature. Unlike Crowley and much of the other Dem leadership, he was not much older than Ben and was also African American. I think Ben got a boost more by his appearances on MSNBC over the years and his NAACP ties than anything else. It was also like the 2016 GOP primary in that it was a crowded field. I voted for neither. My choice was Krish, a former Michelle Obama policy aide and a former Molecular Biologist. She really was the candidate more like Ocasio IMO and she got 8%.
In all likelihood, left-wing leaders will emerge in the context both of third parties and of the Democratic Party, which in the long run will itself become more leftist—while at the same time full of internal conflict (much as the Labour Party of Jeremy Corbyn has been—and the Republican Party, for that matter).
Great. Something to look forward to.

Maybe a little too much Hedges or Nietzsche’s Freud/Frankfurt school in it, but yeah.

Academics get that way when they don’t get out.

You think there’s an alternative to fractious growth in this case?

I think it's lost about Republican diversity.. if you saw the debates it peeked it's head..we had sweet little vignettes.. candidates talking about immigration.. about speaking Spanish w friends, families, community folks.. and w Rubio..he was taught conservatism by his non English speaking Cuban grandfather..who he said loved America but couldn't read about her in English..we had Bobby Jindal get hopes up only to disappear for reasons that the GOP grooming community never explained.. Trump stayed true on only a couple of things.. racism and selfishness.. those campaign promises he has kept..he was plainly asked if he would support the party..all were asked that question and told to raise their hand if they wouldn't support the party.. Trump raised his hand..
Now Aphro has given us another chance to look at the the Democratic..non-plan.. hiring a girl from the Bronx..who claims to be a socialist..was working at a Mexican restaurant before winning the election..
Not saying that calculations work.. Bernie and Hillary both crashed and burned.. the list of Democrats is filled with people 70+ years old.. unless they get in a Delorean and crash into a lighting struck clock tower at a precise time and speed.. more doom.
Everyone was talking about the mixed up America.. people who don't look like, talk like our forefathers.. lots of Latino and other non whites making up the new rising population.. Trump has tossed all that.. Democrats are following him.. Trump had an aide read from a history book.. like picking a vacation spot by jabbing your index finger down on a spinning globe.. Trump is taking us to the 40's and the 50's. A great time when women, children and non whites were to be seen not heard.. when it's better to ask for an apology than permission..a time when the Earth's healing power looked unlimited so pollution and greed were looked to be self correcting.. after all we were burning everything.. trees coal, oil, whales.. basically anything and dumping everywhere and we still woke up.. doomsday was a hoax.. Trump's latest is that Oppenheimer was a wimp.. weapons are good if you are tough and "a strong leader".
We see a couple of fresh faces on both sides... but when the United States looks like a mirror image of a going backwards Turkey we are sunk.. when our President is single handedly rearranging the branches of government to suit his personal agenda.. ugly and scary..
I am not counting out a young lady from the Bronx.. but if the the Democratic party is expecting her to take on the Trumpian wave .. the guys in the GOP will probably not even send anybody to the fight..
So we are about young, ethnic women if you are a Democrat and old white guys who are ultra right wing Christian if you're Republican...?

No. The 2016 convention was just the beginning.

Pruitt finally resigns from the EPA. Amazed that he lasted this long.

Herr drumph hires a sexist for his crew, what a surprise..
That spin misses the point, which is this: Shine resigned under pressure from Fox News amid questions about his role in creating or abetting a culture of intimidation and sexually inappropriate conduct. He now works at the White House. For the most powerful person in the country. And still hasn't explained much of anything about the circumstances that led to his dismissal from Fox News

President Trump has praised Vladimir Putin during a free wheeling rally in Montana at which he vowed to make Nato allies pay more for defence, made a series of personal attacks against US opponents and appeared to mock the #MeToo women’s movement.

Ahead of a meeting in Helsinki on July 16, the first summit between the two leaders, Mr Trump told supporters that the Russian president was “fine” and insisted that he was ready for a meeting that is likely to see them sit down without aides.

Old news is new again...Russian money to trump campaign thru the NRA...
Even as the NRA has attacked the American news media with incendiary videos stoking hostility, the news media has been reporting on apparent links between the NRA and the Kremlin — most recently revealing a Federal Bureau of Investigation probe into whether a Kremlin-linked banker used the gun lobby organization to help the Trump campaign.

According to an 18 January 2018 McClatchy D.C. Bureau report, the FBI is investigating allegations that Alexander Torshin, an official at the Central Bank of the Russia and life member of the NRA, funneled money through the gun lobby group to the Trump campaign. The reporting was based on interviews with two unnamed sources familiar with the matter, but who requested their names be withheld because it involves classified and confidential information:

FBI counterintelligence investigators have focused on the activities of Alexander Torshin, the deputy governor of Russia’s central bank who is known for his close relationships with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and the NRA, the sources said.

It is illegal to use foreign money to influence federal elections.

It’s unclear how long the Torshin inquiry has been ongoing, but the news comes as Justice Department Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s sweeping investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 election, including whether the Kremlin colluded with Trump’s campaign, has been heating up

OBTW-
The theory, for the record, goes something like this: Justin Kennedy(son of retiring SCOTUS judge Kennedy) worked at Deutsche Bank. Deutsche Bank was the only Wall Street firm willing to lend money to Donald Trump. In 2017, Deutsche Bank was fined $630 million for its involvement in a Russian money-laundering scheme. After his first address to Congress, President Trump told Kennedy, “Say hello to your boy,” to which the justice replied, “Your kids have been very nice to him.” Now, the court’s swing justice is retiring, giving President Trump the chance to cement a far-right court for a generation.

What is the point of these campaign rallys? Oh, I see, surround himself with delusional deplorables..cuz 65% of the voting public realizes he's an idiot.
At the same Montana rally, which was ostensibly about boosting Republican Matt Rosendale’s bid to unseat Democratic Senator Jon Tester, Trump said Representative Maxine Waters has an IQ “somewhere in the mid-60s,” attacked Senator John McCain’s vote against destroying Obamacare, criticized President George H.W. Bush’s campaign slogan, called members of the media “bad people” days after a mass shooting in a newsroom, declared he would have made the “clown” who climbed the Statue of Liberty in protest jump, and said of the Russian president, “Putin’s fine.”

Stupid words for stupid lemmings...the trumpistas must be very proud.

The rallies are more for Trump than anything else. It is akin to taking the toddler to the playground so they don't throw a tantrum. His babysitters can only take him golfing during the day. I think the highlight of this one was Trump Jr un-ironically warning the masses about 'New York money'. Second was Trump's bragging about his ability to pass legislation, highlighting the McCain vote as 'support' of his assertion. These people really are mental midgets.

I waited and waited.. but nobody said anything..we made a promise to 1000's of veterans.. early numbers say more than 10,000 and now Trump wants to break America's word. Trump wants to discharge over 10,000 veterans because he doesn't like their citizenship!!! Many were recruited specifically because of their background, religion, language skills and expertise. They were sworn in and promised to serve and protect America and they have... honorably and bravely.
For over 200 years non citizen soldiers have served to further the goals and objectives of the US and with victory being the ultimate..
There are military graves where they are buried.. their names are carved in stone of the Vietnam Memorial..
Over and over you can see the stories of people helping American military stay alive and overcome battlefield challenges because of brave men and women working with American forces to fight.
If Trump is successful in smashing another American promise to people that have helped us.. sometimes at the cost of their life or those of their family..we will be disgraced in a way we can possibly never recover from..
It is hard to believe this man would do this, harder to believe still is the almost silent government.. and to make so many disgusting acts of anti patriotism.. doing this on 4th of July weekend..a true disgrace to our country..
He could have made it worse by making the announcement from the Kremlin or while barbequing w Kim Jong Un... this president is a absolute pile of steaming dogbut gravy..
PS Tell the first lady to learn the language and how to spell before she speaks, tweets or wears a silly, stupid jacket.

Why are you surprised?..these honorable men and women aren't WHITE, and some probably aren't male..geeez, rapists and murderers in uniform...but the big basket of deplorables, the same ones who scream, USA!! and hate all things not white, male, hetero...love this stuff..
I mean, if we can accept people clutching onto DT shifters, why can't some get that some consumers prefer discs?

trump..obvious racist..quotes,'rapists, murderers', Judge, immigration, 'infest', 'invade'.

Sexist...access Hollywood, a dozen or so accusers, hush money, big support for Ailes, O'reilly, Portman, and now hiring shine..
The most obvious problem with bringing in former Fox News executive Bill Shine — who departed the network after accusations he was involved in enabling sexual harassment (and worse) — as the new White House communications chief is that rewarding someone who has that kind of record with high office is just plain bad. Columnist Michelle Goldberg nails it: “Too much of a sexual abuse enabler for Fox News, just right for Trump's White House.”

and donnie the dirtbag says
"I don't believe them at all. I believe him. Jim Jordan is one of the most outstanding people I've met since I've been in Washington. I believe him 100%. No question in my mind. I believe Jim Jordan 100%. He's an outstanding man."

Gee, he believed Ailes, O'Reilly, Portman too..other dirtbags...and just hired shine...

djt is not religious, evangelical...and like the evangelicals, congress has sold their soul to this dunce..sad..scott, where are you..I thought you liked to argue(for your boy donnie)???

I still can't really stomach a young Philippino or Mexican who is in a combat zones on board ship right now being called on the carpet and told that the sworn oath they took is worthless. Sicker still...the outsiders.. really outside like Afghanistan, Pakistani, Iraqis others who came over to us to help with basically everything.. they have been made a promise that Trump will break in another arrogant gesture of stupidity.
Ask most veterans if they served with non- citizens they would probably answer no. It's pretty simple the guys in your shop, fire fighting team or the slob next to you doing shots and beer are you.. when you are in the military you are not looking at each other's birth certificates..
. friendship in the Navy is fast and easy.. the guy acts and talks like a gentleman.. your boat ties up and experience liberty together.. regardless of race or where someone was born.. it's a non-question..

Yes birds of a feather do flock.. but it is not an exclusive club of any kind..
were there mostly black basketball teams on base or shipboard? Yes..I was excluded because of race..no ..I suck at basketball.
Were there people that like to speak Spanish..yes..as you walk up some switch to English.. you just have to be secure enough to know that they had better things to talk about than me..
This president dodged his opportunity to serve, to get first hand experience, possibly glean something from it..
Bill Burr an often offensive and deadly funny comedian described Trump as the guy in class that didn't read the book assigned for homework and was obviously trying to fake his way through..
This is not all on Trump..he is saying and doing crazy things and the other branches of government are putting party before country and obfuscating their sworn responsibility to the people..

Another example of screwing the guy on the street so don the dummy can 'get his way'..BAD for lots but like the trade war, perfect for the Dems and the midterms.
But supporters of the Affordable Care Act said the move was the latest example of the Trump White House’s efforts to undermine the health law.

“The Trump administration just keeps pushing their destructive repeal-and-sabotage agenda, no matter the cost to the American people,” said Brad Woodhouse, the director of Protect Our Care, an advocacy group that supports the health law. “Following through with this latest act of sabotage could raise rates for all consumers even more.”
