His music with Soundgarden was a large part of my teen years.

Amen.

Scott Weiland two years ago was another heavy loss. Layne Stayley obviously though that's 15 years ago now.
It seems it's mostly the singers who die young(?)
extravagant personalities - live performing - excessive drugs, not difficult to see correlations there.
With Staley I remember the story was he couldn't sing without speed/coke.

Corgan (who'd have thunk) and Vedder (less surprising) still going strong.
Wonder how Thurston Moore is doing.

Oh man... I just received the news. One of my favourite singers of the 90's and a great great songwriter. I cannot believe this to be true. Rest in peace, Chris.

I've taken a look at Tom Morello's social media and website, he seems to be taking it especially hard. Matt Cameron is as well.

Am still trying to digest this Chris Cornell thing, apparently it was suicide. And right after he and band had played some gig in Detroit.

Don't want to get into conspiracy theories, but according to his wife: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/chris-cornells-wife-issues-statement-w483179

Either way, RIP, Chris Cornell - he was one of the great voices of my generation.

If any of you need a quick history lesson, Billy Joel is a great source:
