Wheeeee, snow!

Went xc-skiing for the first time in a very long time, and right here on my own streets! (Glad I still have my old boots, old skis, old clothes, and old poles.)

Right now it has been pretty cold in the Upper Puster Valley for over a week.
Today we had -19°C in the morning, but when I went on a short hiking trip at noon we still had -15°C when I left the car and -15 at noon is really cold (it was down in the valley in the woods and not on some isolated mountain).

After the weekend in low daylight plus, we're back in freezer.

This is the trace of last week's minus:

You can notice large ice plugs on the Danube. That's how it looks upstream, as well.
Two icebreakers from Hungary are on their way to make the river navigable again.

Currently snowing, freezing point.

Magnificence! It's a bizarre 54F here today... for the first time in a long time I don't have to wear thermal underwear, I didn't have to blow-dry my hair this morning (it's one of those first world problems - I hate walking around with frozen hair in the winter), and I actually shaved my legs!

I'll enjoy this balmy weather while it lasts, in a couple of days it's supposed to freeze again.

No trace of last month's minus.,
40 days and 40 degrees Celsius in range, so 20 pleasant February degrees.

Image

There's N/NW (is this the movie thread?!) wind of 10-15 kph.

But I'm not getting carried away... The winter never ends in February.

It's going to freeze here overnight, but we've had a lot of rain recently. (Which is good - so far we're on target in terms of annual rainfall, and there's been lots of snow in the mountains. Which is also good.)

Because of all the rain I've been reading up on dams and spillways and such, ran into what some call, um, glory holes. I think they're just the most bizarre and creepy things, this guy actually walked through the Ladybower bell-mouth spillway when the water level was low. Eeeeeeek - gives me the heebie-jeebies!

On the occasion that we get some snow (or worse - ice!) in my area and I see people riding bicycles I'm thinking they've got either massive balls, or they are stupid. (I'm sure you're the former.:))

There is, of course, that third option - these people have no other means of transportation, in which case I'm fully sympathetic.

Ugh, I had hoped we'd seen the last of it... Can't wait for spring and 10+ degrees.

I don't have balls. I'm ball-less.
I'm the third option. I'd been visiting my parents, and since I rode by bike to get there (it hadn't snarted snowing yet at that point) I also needed to ride my bike to get home, since I'll need by bike Sunday.
But hey, Danish people. We ain't gonna let a bit of snow stopping us.

It's currently drizzling and windy here - how am I supposed to prune my roses during this type of crap? (I'm woefully behind.)

All this rain...

Hope you and yours won't mind if I share this bag of gummy bears with you. (Cause gummy bears make people happy no matter how old we are, right? :))

Oooooh, purrdy. :)

We mostly only have ducks and Canadian geese in my area, they produce a lot of crap. But they're awesome to watch when they fly in formation.

Back to weather talk - overcast, almost 50F here, more rain is on the way. (I ate so many gummy bears the other day I made myself ill.)

Currently rainy and in the mid 50s here during the day, mostly in the low 40s at night. But there is still a chance of frost, so can't go crazy with the planting of foliage just yet. (Certainly not tomato plants, that will have to wait till early May. But I did actually plant some Lily of the Valleys and some poppies, may Mother Nature do her worst in this wacky weather!)

About 67F, overcast, and a bit windy here, they're saying we might get some thunderstorms later today. (Yeah right, I'll believe that when I see it.) Nonetheless, I'm keeping my eye on the Lilly of the Valleys and the poppies I had planted recently, so far there's a whole lot of nothing going on. (Isn't that the whole thrill of gardening, though? Seeing if the things you had planted will actually grow?)

My pride and joy is my "Zen" pond, though, saw a couple of big, fat frogs jump into it when I walked by today. I'd like to think it's a female who is the keeper of the house cause she kinda sticks around all year, think she might have found herself a boyfriend. By golly, they might actually have some babies this spring! :D (Couldn't get a picture of them, btw., which is just as well, cause whatever they're doing down there in the water is probably X-rated.)

Don't you just love spring? :)
