LOL, it's ok. We all misread things at times. I do feel for those teams though. On the other hand, I went in a different direction with my team and really only have one guy who should be in the top 10 of the GC when it's over.

Well... that was a bummer for this game with Porte

I have Roglic also and I´m praying he decides to give GC a chance, now that he has positioned himself pretty good going into the second week

Stage 9 Cobbles to Roubaix

With one notable exception, that was remarkably underwhelming in its effect on the game and the 3 week race, gripping to watch as it was.

Green points

DEGENKOLB John 80 5 team
VAN AVERMAET Greg 70 0 team
LAMPAERT Yves 35 0 team
GILBERT Philippe 25 0 team
SAGAN Peter 15 0 team
STUYVEN Jasper 10 0 team
JUNGELS Bob 5 3 teams
GREIPEL André 3 0 team
BOASSON HAGEN Edvald 2 0 team
DUPONT Timothy 1 0 team

The best cobbles specialists are expensive, and don't get many points in Grand Tours, so the shortage of point earners shouldn't be a surprise

1 AG, Kazistuta, Koronin, NorthAmericanScum, Postmanhat 80
6 RattaKuningas, SafeBe, Search 5

Standings
Koronin and NAS have been picking up a few points from Degenkolb over the week, and got the big points today to add to those they already had from Gaviria. The highest positioned other scorer today is Search in 15th.
1 Koronin 432

Yellow points

All but 9 teams (Amis Velo, Evans is the Best, Fauniera, GP Blanco, Koronin, Postmanhat, RattaKuningas, Sporting Nonsense, Yellow Knight) have effectively seen 21% of their budget sitting in tears on a kerb 10km from Arras.

Against most expectations, it was the riders who didn't really have much concern about their GC position that lost places today, so most of the important picks in the game (other than Porte, obviously) actually gained prospective points. Van Garderen and Uran dropping down the classification gifts points galore, but none of our teams were penalised by that.

DEGENKOLB John 82 5 teams
VALVERDE BELMONTE Alejandro 60 1 team
MAJKA Rafal 60 5 teams
YATES Adam 60 7 teams
FUGLSANG Jakob 50 5 teams

Standings

Koronin and Ratta Kuningas enter the top ten on jumps of 10 and 8 places respectively, and other than the imperious Semir everyone in this mornings top ten drops places. Koronin's jump is exceeded by Fauniera (11 places), SportingNonsense (14), GPBlanco (15) and by Postmanhat, with an amazing 27 place vault.

I might find time for some stats tomorrow, but current tables are of course before they have even seen anything more than a small hill, so everything still to play for, even for the 80% of us who have lost one of our key riders.

I will very happily take the Green Jersey of this competition into the rest day and enjoy it. I am very happy with my relatively inexpensive pick of Degenkolb for earning some nice Green points to go along with my two expensive picks of Gaviria and Valverde. As for my pick of Valverde, I basically figure he'll finish in GC somewhere around where he currently is. I do NOT expect a podium for him, but a solid top 10 and stage points, which I do expect more stage points at some point or other.

We now have 2 front-runners rather than one, but with very different tactics, while Search moves onto the podium behind them. Postmanhat and NAS were in the first two places outside the top ten, know they are in it. GPBlanco's jump of 14 places is the best of the day.

Today it was Majka and Jungels: who will lose time and position on tomorrow's first summit finish? Or might somebody actually move forwards other than by default?

I'm definitely going to enjoy my green jersey for as long as I can keep it. :)

As for yellow, well I expect to loose some points there at some point or other simply because as confident as I am that Valverde finishes top 10, I'm not nearly that confident he can finish on the podium. Plus looking back at my team, it seems a team built more for the Green jersey than the Yellow.

Semir is the only Thomas team to barge into the ten: all the others bar the top 2 at least have Dan Martin.

Yellow points

So those who look like they will be top ten at the end of the race get themselves into the serious GC positions, and those who won't vacate those positions with a big loss of points.
Cavendish and Kittel represent a modestly expensive loss of any future points for a large number of teams, and an significantly priced loss for a smaller group respectively.

Standings

So much for my suggestion yesterday that Koronin had joined Semir in a breakaway pair: he dropped 16 places today.
The 4 Thomas teams occupy the 4 top places, with those of us in 2nd to 4th having risen by 6,2 and 8 places respectively; GPBlanco, Fauniera and Carlo Algatrensig follow AG into the top ten with even bigger jumps, but they are all in the shade of 20 place jumps for Los Brolin and Ruvu75.

Thanks to Movistar's horribly bad tactics. I swear I have not seen tactics that bad in a very LONG time.

Geraint Thomas teams now in 2nd, 4th and 5th, probably with a few more yellow jersey bonuses to come, but Degenkolb (AG, Koronin, NAS and 2 other teams) is about as good a sprinter as anyone still in the game (Laporte and Arndt are on one team each, Guarnieri (if we have really looking that far down the list of sprinters) is on 6)

Yellow points
After the huge shake-up yesterday, there wasn't much left to filter today, but a couple of notable position swaps and the downward drift of Caruso, Yates, Pozzovivo and Pauwels gift some points. Otherwise non-finishing sprinters losing their putative green jersey and finisher points are the main impact of the day.

Standings
Well, I though someone might dislodge Semir eventually, but I didn't expect that...
The Thomas teams pull out a bit of a gap on the rest of the field, but Froome may have it in him to remove 150 points from their tallies when SDB gives the command. Evans is the Best and Laarsland appear in the top ten, EitB with the daily best 12 place hop.

Expecting low scores tomorrow, with little likelihood of GC action and the most relevant sprinters for the game out of the race.

The way things are going with sprinters Terpstra, Alaphilippe, Dan Martin, and Valverde might start counting as sprinters.

Wow, who knew Taylor would score me a point? One of my lowest three points picks because I figured he wouldn't loose me any points. LOL. I guess with Uran out the team is going to let him sprint. With many of the sprinters out, they may as well.

Re: 2018 Tour de France CQ game

20 Jul 2018 22:25

I just want to say that I really apreciate these games and I always look forward to the daily updates and the detailed analisys on rest days, so thanks for organising this @armchair cyclist.

It usualy takes me a whole week to create a team for these games but this time I almost forgot about it and picked my team in 15 minutes. I deliberately tried to create a team that is not too high on the popularity ranking.

For me it's probably either going to be a top-4 or a bottom-15 finish, so I'm gonna hope that Fuglsang gets better in the third week and that Thomas is not going to fail in some way (even if the past tells us he will) so I can get away with the win at the end even though I am left with only two riders that are scoring points for my team.

Access to the internet, and to my laptop, very restricted at the moment, but I will get to you as I can. Normal service resumed from Friday onwards.

Stage 15 A group ride to Carcassonne with disintegrated breakaway (as far as I can tell, having seen nothing of it other than the results page)

Green points
