The approach ws very technical today, so Nibali probably saved boatloads of energy by being a fabulous bike handler.

He saves even more when getting towed about by cars

The driver of the motorcycle Froome was hanging on in Giro must still wonder to this day how on earth he didn't spot that tremendous talent right then.

This is the Nibali thread, let’s keep it on topic please

The cobbled stage in the 2018 Tour de France features fifteen stretches of pavé. Totalling at 21.7 kilometres this is the greatest distance of cobbles included in the Tour’s last five ventures onto the pavé.

This will make a difference. Not forecast for rain but Nibali should finish in the lead group of specialists.

I agree with this. Yesterday's stage was a grinder, up and down for many km, narrow roads, the final wasn't even particularly steep. Top shape Nibali has always been good on this terrain.

Mur de Bretagne is a different beast.

 pathetic. First derailing the thread by starting to cry about that car tow and then start complaining to stay on topic when you get called out on the fact broome did the same. Well its not the same actually nibs did it to get back after they fell in front of him. Froome however......
Newsflash we dont care about that car tow! Shocking i know.

Excellent performance, finished in the valverde group and was able to close down a gap to GvA. Clearly on the limit, but gained time on others.

Yeah I know that's why i said it, didn't forget them, this was just an addition.

Thomas is screwed. I'm predicting nasty fall on the cobbles

At least Nibs isn't losing time every time there is an explosive finish like last time he was at the Tour.

Thomas is able to do that by himself without any voodoo help

I haven't look much into the stages this year. Are any of the descent finishes technical? Also how technical is the timetrial?

Good performance, now just avoid crashing in the flat stages and go berserk on Sunday.

Alberto Contador=Legend!

Nibali becomes only the 6th winner of all 3 GTS (2014)!
Nibali joins Gimondi, Merckx and Hinault as only the 4th man to win all 3 GTS and 2 different Monuments (2018). A throwback rider in this age of specialization. Bravo!

In Grand Tours in the late 2010s I don't call my chickens before they're laying eggs themselves.

Bardet and Dumoulin, IMO, are non-contenders anyways. Bardet will never be good enough to drops the best and sucks at other areas while Dumoulin won't do well in the mountains.

Nibali is coming.

No surprises, there have been only 2 riders Nibs is really afraid on suchlike finishes. one retired last year, the second one has been gapped and dropped 8 sec. time to create havoc on stage 9.
