Carols wrote:We lost so much when he hung up the wheels it makes me weep. He was a throwback to the days of Grand Panache!

But another will come, he always has. We just need to be patient and hopefully live long enough!

Are you guys missing the current Giro, or just ignoring it?

Because obviously 2 weeks of a GT equate 11 years of madness in GTs.

Panache isn't just riding away into the distance when you're much better than everyone else.

Pantani was the last of his ilk. Rode with his heart, guts and panache, no matter the consequences! Before him you have to go back to Hinault.

As I said one has to live long enough, my time is running out.....
Alberto Contador=Legend!

Nibali becomes only the 6th winner of all 3 GTS (2014)!
Nibali joins Gimondi, Merckx and Hinault as only the 4th man to win all 3 GTS and 2 different Monuments (2018). A throwback rider in this age of specialization. Bravo!

With all the plodders going around now you forgot how vicious his accelerations were

I freaking want that kit. Or any fancy kit that has his logo or name on it. But for devil's sake it's not available.

Anyway, I'm fine with his retirement now. His legacy stands rock solid. Almost every day I take my bike and go for a four hour ride, bringing as much honour as possible to El Profeta. When the panache is nowhere to find, you'll have to recreate it yourself.
