Also already signed with Trek. He's imho already fully set for the fresh start (in Trek) mentally (putting ongoing season into backlog)...

Obviously he rides the vuelta just for training. Same as Nibali.

I hope Australia doesn't waste too many resources on Porte at the Worlds. He has never displayed aptitude in this style of racing. It should be all in for Jack Haig.

Not only had Richie a dodgy stomach and a poor shoulder ...he had NOT ONE but TWO mechanicals yesterday ....he must have done something really bad in a past life

The GT treble is starting to look sort of unlikely for Porte.

A GT podium would be a massive achievement.

Can't aim for more.

CN reporting that he has pulled out of the Worlds, due to illness.

So maybe end of season for him, and wont be seen in the BMC jersey again.

So in the end, the Vuelta ended up laying the foundations for another tilt at a stage victory on the Willunga Hill?

God I really dislike Porte for some reason. I can't quite put my finger on hit.

Probably because no single is a positive thing that makes you want to root for him while every single thing is mildly annoying which combined altogether is pretty infuriating.

He says Porte has no positives, but a lot of very small negatives. Each negative by itself is almost irrelevant, but together they make Porte infuriating.

Personally I find Porte's constant humblebragging somewhat annoying, but to each his own

Don't know what humble bragging means but more disappointment for Porte and his fans. Going into the Tour it looked like Porte might be on the way back but it was downhill thereafter. His TDS ride was a good one with plenty of improvement left in the legs. Another season like this one and that might be it for Porte as he doesn't come across as the most confident and motivated type. I think he has two more years maybe to find some redemption at least in grand tours. Of course the one week stage races, you get the impression that he can win those most of the time which is why many fans are frustrated that he can't convert that ability to the three week races. But there has never been a shortage of those riders. Spilak and Costa ? The podium is not getting any closer but I suppose you can also say the same about former GT winners like Quintana and Aru, and also Pinot and Landa. But at least those riders have either won a GT or made the podium.

And now the younger riders are coming through. Simon Yates, Lopez and Mas are already ahead of Porte GT results wise. Dumoulin has moved past Porte like he was standing still and already has three podiums and Geraint Thomas has his GT win. Even Zakarin has one podium. Then you have Bernal and Roglic. If the clock wasn't ticking loudly before it has suddenly become much louder. Porte's best years and opportunities could be over. It's not as if it hasn't happened to other good riders The other option is that Porte has been simply overrated and fans and the media either expected too much or completely misjudged what he is capable of. Sure injuries, illness, crashes and luck play a part in any pro cyclist's working life but they usually don't define an entire career.

Humble Brag
When you, usually consciously, try to get away with bragging about yourself by couching it in a phony show of humility.
"Your inflatable inner-tube is way cooler than my 80-foot yacht. You get to be so much closer to the water and to nature. I envy you, I really do"

For example earlier this year when he said he's "No Eddy Merckx, I can only do..." and then proceeded to quote ridiculous and completely impossible power numbers that would have won him the Tour by at least half an hour if they were true.

And he, for once, was able to not hit the ground in more than 10 consecutive days.
