Yup, when a famous rider does it it is extremely funny, but when a rider not known much does this I get sad as well, perhaps it would be the only win of his/her :(
I think it's the sign of a clean rider and a real sportsman to be attracted to the bigger challenge over the ultimate result. Good luck with the Giro/Tour double, Chris Froome. -Phil Gaimon

Cost him the win. Should have continued to ride to the line and throw the bike.

Could be it chalked up to a beginner's mistake? Being so excited about (finally) beating Kittel and Cavendish in a direct sprint that he forgot the part where you actually have to be first all the way across the line...

It wasted an impressive sprint and a very impressive lead out. Stephens will have words for him.

I'm sure he will learn from it, It's never nice but better to do it now than in a bigger race in the future.

The more I watch it the more I think he would've lost anyway. Impressive sprint by Ewan though.

Yep, push come to shove I think he loses it anyway. Kittel took it by half a wheel and Ewan was only starting to post up. It would've thisclose, though.

Storm in a tea cup. Much better riders than Ewan have made the same mistake. Lesson learned.

Well, that was one of the most embarrassing moments I have ever seen in a cycling race.

I don't understand this one. No photographers after the line, a motorcycle following you over the finishline, let alone a very loudly rang bell. Considering that, it took him ages to find out he did not win.

It's possible he wasn't thinking completely clear in the moment. :D
