This could really toss a few cats amongst the pigeons ... we might get that monumental day we've all hoped for.....60 - 80 % chance of severe thunderstorms in the afternoon ...

Most weather forecasts I checked this morning suggest that if there will be any rain (and mostlikely there wont) it will most likely be in the evening (after the stage). But I wouldnt mind some wet cobbles tbh. You got a link to that forecast?

Meteo france shows 'sparse' rain in the afternoon and then again in the evening. The Met. Office synoptic charts show a series of three fronts (CCW) from ca. 13.00 and given there is a big (6 deg) drop in temp between T/W, something is happening.

But it's all about timing with these kind of summer storm / weak fronts…the difference between a cloudy day or spot of drizzle rather than a big squall line is so locally very variable; system more sluggish than predicted and you have a nice day, perhaps no rain until the evening. If front occludes a bit, you have a spot of drizzles rather than a squall...

From what I've seen, if you asked me to bet a fiver, I'd think rain is quite likely in the afternoon; may not be that heavy.

are you **** kidding me about this being a stage thread?
If it is, then go and make it a proper thread please, :) cobble stage in TdF is something like a holiday, just look at last two stage threads from TdF, the OP had like several posts.

btw also I want to know that as I dont add my signature to stage threads in order to not interfere with a fast discussion :)

OP and title edited.

Next time do a proper race thread please. It's not so hard.
A race that doesn't give an attacker the chance to finish it off alone is not a race anymore.

I'm hoping for a dry stage. Astana to dish out the pain as soon as they hit the cobbles, together with the usual suspects (Etixx, Lotto, etc). I'm curious to see if Froome and Quintana can handle this, while I'm pretty sure Berto will be very well protected by his team.

let's see whether the cobbles specialists get anything.

i just hope that this stage wont be a sky-train leading from start to finish.

I liked the fact that astana tried to do an echelon today, they caught froome by surprise.

Astana has to go ham on froome. And nibali better risks his life at the allos descent :D

Will be interesting (or not) to see how the survivors from today's nasty crash will do. Read Cancellara for the stage win (I know that's as unlikely as it gets) and if some of the GC guys will sink even more on the table.

I'm thinking the stage will have a modest impact at best on GC.

Maybe a consolation prize for Vanmarcke. Hushovd got it 5 years ago.
And the jersey for Van Avermaet in similar spirit.

I heared the cobbles aren't that difficult this year so I don't expect big time gaps. However nibali better attacks because I doubt that he will get better opportunity to distance froome.

The big question is whether Lars Bak will complete his hattrick in the "Bak Corner".
