He's pretty much the cycling version of Mickey Rourke in the movie The Wrestler.

Davide himself says that he has no life besides cycling, sometimes I don't know if I should just respect his love for cycling or feel sad for him.

I respect his dedication and professionalism, which seems to be matched only by that of Valverde, but obviously it will have to end eventually, perhaps he will come to terms with that in time.

Lex Nederhof, true legend.
The Day Team Sky disappears from cycling I'll truly enjoy watching a mountainous Grand Tour stage again -- former Milan-San Remo winner I interviewed.

Sky finish up with Leo Basso (no relation):

He and Lawless will probably serve as Halvorsen's lead out men.

He's one of Moscon's training buddies.

Riders still needed for the 16 rider minimum for ProConti teams:

Novo Nordisk: 11
Rally: 9
Soul Brasil: 8
Hagens Berman - Axeon: 8

Basso seems like a really weird signing for Sky. He's 23 and has done nothing of note that I can recall. Usually their young signings (Halvorsen, Bernal etc) are really obvious big talents. This guy hasn't even held down a Conti ride to date. What am I missing? Why do they seem to rate him?

I guess the best explanation is two posts above yours.

If he's being hired as a kind of minder to keep Moscon's mouth shut and his behaviour under control, the kind of babysitter record labels used to assign to addled rockers, I suppose it could make sense.

I think I recall reading somewhere that Soul Brasil is going back to being CT or even to CLUB-level.

Sorry, I can't do math... Are you saying that Novo Nordisk, a team that's already PC, and hasbeen so for a few seasons now, need 11 more riders to fill the minimum requirements? That they only have five riders on contract for next season? What had happened to the other riders who were on the team this year? They don't really have the reputation as a team constantly sending riders off to bigger teams.

I don't think the "Who has a contract" information is at all reliable for PCT or CT teams.

Because the requirement to ride for them isn't "pro level talent". It's "have type 2 diabetes".

Type 1.
But that still doesn't explain how they suddenly lost so many guys. Everybody just decided to retire at once? Naah... they've probably as good as extended, it just hasn't been made public yet.
