The mountains don't exactly need to be brutal to balance out the TT mileage, since two of the TTs finish with a climb. The total TT mileage likely won't exceed the length of the Valdobbiadene TT in 2015.

And the 3rd itt contains a climb (about 3.5km @ 6%, iirc) while it's only about 16km long.

Now watch this route be better then Dumoulin's wildest dreams only for him to go to the Tour.

Yes and the Giro also starts one week later.

That seems to be the reason.

The Tour is only moving back one day.

If the Tour route won't really favour him maybe he indeed tries the double again. With this route at the Giro he would be a big favourite to win and he can try the Tour again as a bonus. Or indeed skip the Tour completely and go for the Giro + Vuelta double. Anyway I think he really wants to win the Tour (and beating Froome to it) so it will be a difficult choice.

I just can't see Dumoulin trying the double again. Last year he might have thought, the giro route suits him better, he likes the giro, so why not go to there again, he still has enough time to focus to the tour. But at some point he will stop delaying his focus on the tour and go all in for yellow. The significance a tour triumph has to his palmares and legacy is just too big to ignore.

God damnit, I only remembered stage 10 was supposed to finish in Rapallo and got really hyped when I read your comment. There are no words to describe my disappointment after clicking on that link

Sorry! The lol should have given you a hint. It's only 147 km so let us be glad for that. When the Giro does a flat stage though, it really does a flat stage. :D (stage 12 in 2016 was another doozy)

Nah I think he will be all Tour in 2019 like Quintana. Landa will do the Giro, Porte should do the same but won't of course. Trek will expect him to do the Tour.

Froome's supposed to go for TdF so he'll have the A team with him, so Tommy D should really do the Giro. Mind you Yates is supposed to have another go.

Froome really shouldn't affect Dumoulin's decision. At all.

I think Thomas, Yates, Nibali, Landa are the ones that most likely will go for the Giro.

I would think Mas and Kruijswijk too. So the field would be good.

Main question for me would be where Bernal goes

Giro as G backup and Vuelta would be my guess

Sounds like an extremely good field, I really hope in that Cuneo Pinerolo stage, 250 km including Finestre and Pramartino...
