Alright, so I’m not having any ad issues with my desktop, but!... on my phone there is this amazon ad that completely takes over the webpage. It’s SO annoying. You have to exit the tab and restart to get it to go away.

Re: Disable Ad-Blocking?

Hard to figure out the 'rollout' of this notice.

It suddenly appeared on my Desktop PC over a week ago, but took until today to show up on my Laptop, and I use the latter daily.

I don't see 'pop-ups' but get annoyed by the ones that appear (and change even) in the middle of an article that I am reading.

CN has enough advertising of its own embedded in its site without having to resort to the rubbish that is dished up via Google and the like.

I guess its only a matter of time before we are commanded to disable the 'pop-up blocker' as well.

I will get my Cycling News from elsewhere now.

I get the notice on my laptop but not my desktop. So when using my laptop, I resort to other news sites, and will do the same on my desktop if it shows up there, too. I don't mind a few discretely placed ads, but when the website more or less puts a gun to my face and tries to force me to see lots of trash google ads, I'm off.

So the site wanted me to disable ad-blocker after I ran CC cleaner on my computer. When some of you had already experienced problems and I hadn’t - I guess that was because I hadn’t run any cleaners for several weeks. So now I’m in the same boat as you all. My phone has actually never been a pain to use on the main site so that’s how I read CN now. The ad’s seem off to the side for the most part. But no, I won’t go there on my laptop anymore.

I had to disable it at first, but the past few weeks I have been able to have it on again without any bother. (uBlock Origin; but even when that was disabled, Ghostery still worked like a charm)

This is the "about the website" subforum, and until this morning the requirement to lift adblockers only applied to the site, now I have intrusive ads on the forum as well, and site and forum are both covered by one whitelisting/blacklisting on AdBlocker. Is this a new change today for other users?

That, plus the appallingly dismissive attitude of CN staff, including the editor, to posting spoilers on live text commentary, means that the adblocker stays on, and CN loses a reader for editorial content.

I’m not experiencing any problems on the forum. I was having the same problems on the main site with Adblock. I switched to Ublock and it wasn’t asking me to whitelist anymore. Thanks Netserk for the reminder about Ublock. Try that guys. It worked for me (I’m using Firefox).

I got the whitelist our site message today or you can't read any of the articles. I begrudgingly pressed yes since well I do use the site a lot.

I am promptly greeted by this as my first screen:

What in the ***** **** is that?

I'm sorry but are you guys trying to sabotage your own site? Not in a million years am I disabling my blocker for that. I'm either going to try the Ublock option I see mentioned here (which I hope works since I do like the site) or find another way to get my news.

I was actually prepared to put up with some un-obnoxious ads but that's way over the line.

So, today it showed up on my desktop computer as well. That's one less reader for cyclingnews.com, then.

Yes, had to disable mine, more adverts than content now. I'll just get my fix elsewhere from now on.

and now comes the exhortation to pay for the site directly and go ad free.

In the UK there is a reason the Daily Mail is still read whilst those behind a paywall slowly die.

There are now more ads that content here with the frames and suddenly a third of the screen devoted to ads.

They'll probably get around to detecting uBlock eventually but there are several ways around sites that try to stop people from blocking ads. I see no ads whatsoever and I'm not using any of the methods mentioned previously.

I wouldn't mind the odd add but this site now feels like you're in the middle of an ad convention..it's insane!

The amount of ads is insane..absolutely over the top. You guys must think we're idiots. I won't be back, even if it means having to put up with velonews.

Velonews has ads too, no? Most people here, including myself install ad-blockers to their browsers, which seems to reduce the plaque of advertisers to a palatable level for me.

Also due to the way the site seems coded anytime I scroll for a brief second if you click afterwards anywhere it takes you to an advert. This is incredibly frustrating as I'm usually trying to click on an article. It's the same on both Chrome and Firefox for me.

The website these days just really really poor.
