He probably got the best result he could've hope for. well done at maximizing his returns for once.
Hopefully he can sustain this for a few years.

Gesink finally getting back on track after all those problems is by far the best thing about this Tour.

That is a great performance by Gesink. To me he has been the surprise of the race.

I never expected this from the nr 16 on the Rettenbachferner and nr 8 of Mt Baldy. Gesink is back in 2010 form.

Amazing, finally back to his best :)

one happy lad will be Gesink (and his LottoJumbo team)
a great come back, 6th behind the BIG names
very important for the team and him. he gained a lot of confidence, or better, RE-gained confidence

To think that Gesink lost 1'30 in Zeeland to Contador, 1'00 on Plateau de Beille due to a flat tire and '30 on Tinkoff in the TTT... He would have finished well ahead in 5th.
Oh well.

Nice performance from Gesink these last 3 weeks, out of the top 10 he is by far the most surprising name on the GC list.

Actually that was why it was even more a surprise. If he had showed signs of his former glory in Cali or Suisse we maybe could've seen it coming, but it really came out of nowhere as well.

Really happy for him. It's still not neo pro Gesink that could drop others, but he's very consistent.

I think you forgot the two minutes Contador lost on the Pra Loup stage

He has a record now. Most consistent rider in the TDF since Sean Kelly in 1983. Finished every stage within the first 40. Best 4th, worst 36th.

44 riders finished ahead of him in the TTT.
Cancellara is like The Black Album. Really good but way overrated.

TTT is not an individual result and therefore is not in the equasion. It's only the team result there, so 9th.

If Gesink skips the Vuelta and does a proper build up he will be WC. He may even win one of the Canadians while at it. Just cos he's imense.

This was a deserved 6th place. Glad to see him back in form. I'm not sure he's the same rider yet he was before the end of 2010. Back then there seemed to be room to improve. But can he now? Maybe it does him injustice to keep comparing him to those years.

Is he riding San Sebastian? I hope so. I remember he was very strong there in 2010 after a strong Tour. After that he should take some rest and perhaps shine in Canada. His win in Montreal is one of the more exciting wins I've seen.

edit: he's not :(

Hi Dekker Tifosi.

I've been looking closely at Gesink's palmares today, what do you think will be both his own and his team's expectations over the next three years?
