IAM is a Swiss asset management firm, specialized in institutional asset management. It is founded by Michel Thiétaz, who has an estimated net worth of 100-200 million, who seems to be into cycling. Last april he said that golf and sailing didn't interest him very much, and that his passion was cycling.

He is said to be willing to invest 4.9 million euros a year, for (at least) the following six years in a pro-conti team in which half of the roster would be Swiss. Serge Beucherie, a former professional and team director, will probably be appointed as manager.

Any name??

16 Jul 2012 18:07

For example; I think in Andreas Kloden...a "big" name and a very good rider for races as Tour of Romandie and Tour of Suisse...

Cancellara would be a dream!!!!

The leaders of the team could be OLIVER ZAUGG and MARTIN ELMIGER.

They say that the goal 2013 is pro conti, 20 riders, budget 6mill € for minimum 3 years so my thoughts are forget all those big names, they will go for the riders with an upcoming future and riders in there late years.

Her are the IAM facebook profile with some info and the story behind.

Interesting, I had not heard this before.

Others linked with the team are Sébastien HINAULT and Kristoff GODDAERT

I read somewhere that Gabriel Rasch (FDJ) also had an offer from IAM. Can't remember where I read it so I'm afraid I have no link.

after seeing the Tour de France for some 5 years now.

02 Aug 2012 14:04

I disagree with use of radios wired to the rider. I also disagree with the way riders tend to drag a sprinter for 150 kilometers then let him go with about 200 meters to the finished line. These guys can not win a race on there own by going out in front for 200 Kilmeters. The spinter class in the tour is nothing but a show case for a team to drag a spinter to the line and then they can him the fastest rider in a race. With out the team concept which has arrived in the TOUR De France ; theses one day wonders would be a no body. Get rid of the radios ; let these guys go on there own and we will see who the real riders are in this race. Like wise all races that our of an international standard. NO Radios , and No cars wired to the rider. It really takes away from the sport. Real riders will show you who they are.

Well, I guess that this topic is as good as any for a rant. But sure you do not want to start a topic instead? I mean if radios and sprinters really bother you, maybe take it up somewhere it can be discussed.

It's being reported on procycling.no

http://www.procycling.no/article3444683.ece

Since one of the people involved is Serge Beucherie who knows Gabriel Rasch from Credit Agricole it makes sense.

Haussler to IAM - very interesting.

I assumed when he decided to leave GS it was to head to OGE, but obviously not..

With Haussler, Lofkvist, Tschopp, Larsson, Pelucchi and Goddaert, the profile looks quite good. Let's see what races can they get in.

I heard a rumor about SIMPLON, as they leave NetApp, but I am not sure if they have the budget.
IAM surely is one step above NetApp (budget wise).

Since they are starting as a Professional Continental team. How can they progress to a full Pro team? Do they need a certain amount of points, etc... And even if they fulfil the criteria I assume there are a maximum number of teams that can be on Pro at anytime?
