I know it's all relative when you compare yourself to the pros but he has been flying up the hills, he motored past my sunday morning bunch going up there looking like he was hardly working.

Good spotting, makes me feel even safer with predictions of a huge race for Meyer. Wonder if he will also ride TDU? Would be a strong team with a fit Meyer, Clarke and Gerrans riding together.

I see there are 4 OGE riders not doing the Nationals. O'Grady (who just raced the Herald Sun Tour), Davis, Hepburn and ?? (can't recall the 4th). Howard and Docker heading to San Luis to race with Albasini, Meier, Tuft and Weening.

Lancaster was the 4th OGE rider not doing the Nationals. Haven't heard any leaks on the OGE makeup for TDU, anyone got the good mail?

I am thinking it might be something like this;

Gerrans
Clarke
Durbridge
O'Grady
Mathews

Goss.....who would leadout for him?
Mouris
Meyer
Sulzberger
Lancaster ??
Cooke

Of course only 7 can be selected.

Matthews said he would probably end up working for Gerro and Goss at the TDU, so unless there's been a change of plans I'd expect Goss to be riding.
...[Walsh] thinks we're ahead of the curve. But think about it for a sec. We're building long-lasting, trusting relationships with people who are spending a lot of money - Coke, Nike, Subaru. If we're f***ing lying, we can kiss it all goodbye. And if we were lying we'd do some stupid stuff to try to cover it up, wouldn't we? Does anybody think for a second that a secret that big wouldn't come out? Bill Stapleton

Looks like Matthews is peaking for TDU again. Surprised that he'd beat Porte in a long time trial.

Matthews is quite a decent time trialist, he just rarely rode one all out on Rabobank. Porte is of course not ideally built for a long flat time trial.

O'Grady is still on the start list

There was a pretty strong crosswind too, no chance for Porte who may not be peaking for February this year. Although his margin to Durbridge is actually smaller this year so who knows.

Good ride by Alex Morgan just out of J19 to come 2nd in U23 by 1.7 secs.
Ave speed 50.5 albeit shorter distance.

I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong

The Grand Boucle wasn't just Europe's for the taking.

Profile - Don't be mislead by it. The riders only do the long circuit 3 times this year.

The website hasn't really explained it very well.

Do people want a race thread for the Men's Road Race or just keep live and pre-race commentary in this thread?

Bradley Linfield is an absolute gun in the making.

I've just moved to Perth a couple of months ago and he's already getting local legend status around here. He looks the goods, nice kid too.

I would use this thread.
Course looks good, plenty of opportunities if anyone who wants to race the damn thing.

Hoping Matthews can hang around and take the select group sprint.

Why would a time trialist skip the TT and time trial his way to a criterium win? Who cares about the crit title.

It's 3 timed around the long loop, then 11 times around the shorter loop. 14 times up Mt Bunninyong, 195.8 K. Has usually been 16 times around the short loop, 16 times up the climb, 163.2K. So 2 fewer times the climb, but 30 + K longer race. Don't see how it will change much, still favours hard puncheur.
