World Championships 2024: Men's Road Race (September 29)

Looking at his results over the last few years, Schmid somehow finding a way to finish 2nd is far more likely to happen than actually winning.

    Most memorable doped perfomances?

Was van der Poel really juiced up so much or was it lack of competition this year? Quickstep have taken a big hit in form on cobbles for 2-3 years now with few exceptions, Van Aert not present, ... a quick look at the top 10 of both races and you'd think "who of these guys was supposed to beat...

And yet it was Landa and Vervaeke who were with him till the end and nobody else within 10 minutes. From the days of Boonen, Devolder, Pozzato, Terpstra, Stybar, etc to well, .... this. Quickstep went from being the best classics team over 2 decades to being actually in danger when the roads are...

Giro d'Italia Worst Giro d'Italia edition in the 21st century?

On top of route and questionable tactics this one also had the problem of the first week with rain, crashes and Covid, which depleted the fight for gc for some teams heavily. I mean, Arensman and De Plus rode as a domestique and still managed to hang on for a top 10 spots because nobody else was...

Teams & Riders Ilan Van Wilder - Pale Rider

Sure. I see the potential is there. But at this moment in time nobody would take Van Wilder to lead them in a GT. Like I said, hes shown his worth and should get more opportunities like Algarve to ride for himself. But in the biggest races he'd still be a helper to the likes of Evenepoel or...

Teams & Riders Ilan Van Wilder - Pale Rider

Another decent result today but without an attack he's not going to make up the 4 or 5 minutes needed to slip into the top 10, I fear. Overall a great showcase for him this Giro where he was able to prove his worth and get more chances for himself in the future. But let's not go overboard...

    Remco Evenepoel

There is a fine line between arrogance and confidence. And in my opinion, as long as you back up your words on the road, you can talk all the *** in the world. IF you get beaten soundly after such statements then it is fair game to be critizied. But Evenepoel did beat everyone in the TT even...

    Remco Evenepoel

He was comfortably leading the race before getting Covid and would've destroyed the field even further if healthy in the TT. I mean, he won being sick. Imagine the amount of time he would've put into them otherwise. But yeah, leading the race by basically the same margin as last year during the...

That was also in a time where riders prepped for like 2 races to be at 110% and mediocre the rest of the year. Right now the guys like Evenepoel or Pogacar seem to go back to "just keep a very high base level with few spikes for certain goals" and perform all year long. Both of these dudes...

    Remco Evenepoel

In most European countries football is the number one thing what every athlete wants to be. But also the sport with probably the least testing for doping. If they don't test at all and pretty much everyone wants one of the few spots available it becomes very clear very soon that they are all...

That's just it, I don't think they're gonna soft peddle at all. As bad as it is for QS and Evenepoel as a whole but this might be the chance for especially Van Wilder to go for stage wins on his own. And it wouldn't even be undeserved. Except Algarve he was working for others all year...

With what support team though? It's not like they're gonna pull all of his climbing domestiques out of the race as well. And can he compete without Van Wilder or Hirt? Even if Remco himself recovers and finds the needed form for the Tour, his team won't be anywhere near the rest of the competitors.

But so much for all the experts who said he peaked too early or the crashes affected him... none of it was true. Guy was battling Covid and still best everyone in the TT.
