Teams & Riders The Remco Evenepoel is the next Eddy Merckx thread

agreed, but really hard to know what his actual form was at ToB. He was putting in extra miles after many stages, and using some of the flat stages simply to go to the front and take some long pulls. I am more concerned how competitive he will be in the road race, since he did not look back to...

    Is UAE Over the Top?

but Ganna's time was considered absolutely crushing...until Vine. Vine could have potentially beaten Remco last year at the Worlds ITT, but crashed, I think (?). So again, since 24, some results that appear supercharged, by yet another rider on that one team, run by one of the most doped...

    World Championship 2025: Men’s ITT, September 21

no it's literally identical. it's almost exclusively up an 8% mountain, and Remco no doubt is suffering again from lack of prep, lack of recuperation leading to exhaustion, and a broken rib. In fact, I am sure he will abandon the ITT the very next day... oh wait...

hmm, okay, weird how? weird because it negates your contrarian point of view?

    Is UAE Over the Top?

not with me. I have no idea why anyone would use him or Bruyneel for reference for anything to do with cycling at all, other than to point out how blood vector doping can turn the natural hierarchy on its head.

    World Championship 2025: Men’s ITT, September 21

hmm. I guess you then are the only expert. ;-) there were many, many images of him catching a rider and dropping them on the climb and then that rider passing him on the descent.

    Is UAE Over the Top?

..again, the main thing is the absolute ease with which Pog (and now the rest of UAE, in relative terms) dominate, and do so easily in 24-25. Before that, sure, Pog was strong, even the best, but the utter ease in dominating was not there. Suddenly in 2024 on he became the long-raid guy, and now...

Not what he did in Tokyo. Just saying. It was commented on at the time, not just here, but by the "experts".

    World Championship 2025: Men’s ITT, September 21

Wonder if anyone is going to use a Rog Tokyo Olympics strategy of going full gas on every climb, but freewheeling resting on every descent. I remember him passing riders on every climb, but then being caught periodically on the downhill by the rider he had just passed.

Not sure why the worlds ITT is not representative of what ITTs are throughout the season. Shouldn't it be limited to like 12 kms? 🙄

Oh I just posted that image since they were also Gianetti creations. That’s all. It seemed more relevant.

    Tadej Pogacar and Mauro Giannetti

completely agree. we had about a decade where I kind of felt the natural hierarchy was largely respected. last two years uae has made it completely ridiculous however. a team, run by one of the worst dopers when a cyclist, who previously managed infamous dopers who got busted after...

    Canadian Classics 2025

there was hope with Ala's win in Quebec that perhaps the Tour of Britain riders were pretty high level. but no... nothing to be done against 24-25 uae. the lieutenants are now as strong or stronger than the captains in other teams.
