    Coronavirus: How dangerous a threat?

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/apr/29/coronavirus-toxic-chemicals-pfas-bpa It’s not the density of NY that’s the problem. It’s the fact that it’s a failed city propped up on finance and ancient infrastructure with no functional civic coordination. Which can be seen in the way its...

    Coronavirus: How dangerous a threat?

Schools and other “public” infrastructure are the immediate challenge. Private corporate enterprises can and will take a lot of it on themselves. Given the state/federal US overlap/disconnection, I think that’s always been inevitable and it will be an ongoing sorting process.

    Coronavirus: How dangerous a threat?

And some/many in the city are not especially skilled. Mostly reliant on Medicare/Medicaid with up to 4 people in a room and a good percentage of workers coming from equally crowded conditions. The one at the heart of the Seattle area outbreak isn’t highly regarded either...

    Coronavirus: How dangerous a threat?

Yeah, that’s a nice dream. I might gamble on it, but don’t want to infect anyone. Not clear many leaders want to bank on that one now.

    Coronavirus: How dangerous a threat?

Well presuming you were allowed to get on a plane (probably with up to the minute proof of testing) the receiving country can always test and quarantine you. WHO could set guidelines that many countries will choose to agree upon. Or it will fall out like travel during the Cold War. As with most...

    Coronavirus: How dangerous a threat?

One of the things lockdowns do is to buy time; to parse the elements (so that the fear/uncertainty factor is not a vast, amorphous unknown); to save lives, to manage optics, etc. Saying they work or don’t work based on discrete outcomes or disciplinary models is a relic of the limited approaches...

    Coronavirus: How dangerous a threat?

Why should Gilead have any control over the tests? The Forbes article is a bit all over the place; which happens when you write at speed to try and reestablish solid ground. I’m not going to touch this one other than to note that WHO has made no more mistakes and dubious calls than any other...

    Coronavirus: How dangerous a threat?

Thanks for the replies. To an extent this is where I was going with that question "Your immune system functions as a reflection of your overall health. And part of that you can’t change, like your age and maybe some genetic predispositions. But part of it you can change. Your immune system is...

    Coronavirus: How dangerous a threat?

I wonder to extent that given all the complicating conditions in NYC in terms of a significant number of deaths and hospitalizations: elderly, negatives and comorbidities of structural poverty and enforced working conditions, substandard health/care institutions, delayed time to quarantine etc...

    Coronavirus: How dangerous a threat?

Beat me to it. Here's more of a breakdown New York governor Andrew Cuomo announced that a study of antibody tests from across the state indicates the coronavirus death rate may be lower than some estimates. Cuomo said that 3,000 antibody tests conducted across New York indicate 13.9% of state...
