Teams & Riders The "MVP" Mathieu Van der Poel Road Discussion Thread

MTB Worlds take place during the Vuelta.......and it's a course he's won at - albeit back in 2019; Val di Sole......

It's a lot easier if you're Belgian/ Dutch to make a career out of it.........and until that changes it will remain a niche discipline in cycling.

https://en.brujulabike.com/vlad-dascalu-ends-his-suspension-and-confirms-his-return-with-trek-factory-racing/ Dascalu back from his ban, and back on TFR........He's fortunate that XC is ignored by the media, and is back without too much whispers, and innuendo, that any road cyclist would get in...

He's going to get far more support as a Dutch rider than a Danish rider........so it's really a 'no brainer'. I think Andreassen was the last Danish World champ in CX (Juniors in 2015, Tabor). And he has hardly ridden much CX since then......,Degn & Bohe have ridden CX as young riders, but I...

How To Say my name! Pronunciation thread

Anglicising names is fairly common in the UK/ USA, especially in sports.......and just reflects ignorance/ laziness. There's a You Tube video with the FIFA/ FC video game commentator, Derek Rae about this; and the amount of footballers who change their names to make it easier for everybody to...

Well yes; I often think after a season of watching XC MTB on challenging courses, the early season CX races can seem a little lame.....

I guess Burquier is doing some races before her rest; she took a long time out after looking burnt out, but was finishing her studying...I can't believe she'll be doing much more racing this season. And she's not in the form she was when she was a top XC & Cyclocross rider a few seasons ago.

Dendermonde is everything I dislike about CX............And it seems that Beringen has been lost from the calendar.......That was a different type of course, with climbing, and a tricky descents.......more like old school XCO.....

I'm guessing that any talented new riders similar to MvdP, WvA would likely be put on a Road programme and CX is used as training..... They were about 23-25 when they started properly on the Road....Nowadays they're already signed and a doing big road races by 19-20.

    2025 UCI Gravel World Championships

Off-road racing shouldn't just be about being physiologically talented - leave that for the Road. Skills, equipment choice, luck, etc should always be a factor.........and that is why I dislike the European version of Gravel........WT Pros turning up and dominating isn't what I want to see...

UCI MTB World Cup (All forms!)

Jenny with another demonstration - and a record win!! Her form is on another level.........Sammie gets 2nd and gets the Overall; so impressive, and so consistent all season long. Evie with another strong ride to 3rd (and whilst on her period ). At last, Charlie.....finally gets his first...

    2025 UCI Gravel World Championships

Yeah, could have predicted this......it's similar in muddy, flat CX races...... His big strength is the combination of climbing, technical descents and his excellent skills...........Take them away and he's not likely to win. And I suspect why none of the top XC racers turn up (though Mont...

    2025 UCI Gravel World Championships

If it had been a Road race, then I understand people not liking Wiebes et al chasing down Van Androoij.......However, it's an off-road event, and while you're in national team kit, you usually ride for yourself.
