Today offered a ridiculous spectacle - even by tennis standards. A supposedly ill Serena whacking the cover off the ball and getting nearly everything back. I wonder what meds she was taking for her "illness" no doubt it was very useful.

I wouldn't be surprised, even though "injured" and "ill", Nadal will make the final.

Nadal's "form" seems to be building up nicely.

Cilic withdraws from Australian Open with injury. He's pretty much sunk without trace since his surprise US Open win.

    Brits don't dope?

And it's just coincidence he comes from a small island where half the top sprinters have been caught doping.

    Doping in other sports?

What knee op? His long absence after losing early at Wimbledon 2012 remains a mystery - with bad knees the only excuse - there was no surgery. Then he comes back - loses the final of his first small clay event (for appearances sake) then goes unbeaten for months. The BBC even ran a piece...

the knees are a smokescreen - Nadal has won loads of hardcourt events - often back to back

    Nadal/Tennis doping

The top tennis players, like the top footballers, are without doubt doped to the eyeballs. But of course noone wants to know - there is too much money at stake. The average fan believes the myth that it's all about skill and that doping would make little difference.

    Vincenzo Nibali

That's my take - I don't think Nibali is doing anything different from before he's just beating up a poor field. If Froome, Contador and Quintana were in he'd be lucky to make the podium.

    Vincenzo Nibali

without froome, contador and quintana it's hard to know if he's any better than previous years

Murray's not been the same since his injury - could be that his back still isn't right and he simply can't regain his old form and might never again. Can't be denied though Dimitrov has become much physically stronger recently.

Think Murray is off the juice now he's won Wimbledon - he's won nothing since and it's perhaps not worth the risk. Dimitrov on the other hand has bulked up hugely in the last 12 months.

it's not enough to explain losses to guys who aren;t ranked in the top 100. There's more going on here than a difficulty adapting to grass.
