Yes, whenever Froome made a serious, focused attempt at double GT’s he structured things very differently, eg riding himself into form over for the first week of the Giro. That’s not at all the same as being at peak consistently from day one and before across both GT’s, and all races in between...

Which big Important races were these 2 winning in February? On one hand, you have these 2 showing good form relative to others in early season races when everyone is at a similarly low level, building to a peak in the traditional pre tour warm up races then going on to hit and hold that peak...

    Primož Roglič

The red flag for me is not how good he is, but how good he’s been for such a sustained period this year. It’s like the laws of fatigue and recovery just don’t apply to him. I think his capitulation at the Tour was mental rather than physical...he just seemed to lose the plot when the time splits...

Totally disagree...maintaining peak form for so long goes against all known/perceived laws of physiology and training. At this rate, the Giro/Tour double should be easy for him next year, hell the full hat trick could even be on.

Remind which of the Sky/Ineos riders ever sustained this kind of peak form for over 12 weeks?

You've gotta be impressed with Roglic and co's ability to hold form. it's been what 12 weeks now that they've been in peak form, dominating the pre tour warm ups, the tour itself (apart from the last day :D), pointy end of the world champs and the odd classic thrown in for good measure. Now they...

    Teams & Riders Geraint Thomas

Bad luck again for sure. But again being the operative word! You contrast Thomas' career with Froome for example, with the exeption of 2 i believe, he's either won or podiumed every GT he's ever entered as leader, and a couple he didn't. I think there's a reason multiple GT winners are so...

    Tadej Pogacar and Mauro Giannetti

Exactly...its not all about raw power, there's efficiency and power transfer to factor in. For some reason, Roglic, usually super smooth and efficient, visually at least just fell apart in this regard on that last climb. He couldn't even transfer his helmet efficiently onto his head...

Surely the management at ISN would have known that Froome's recovery and return to former glories wasn't a given at the time they signed the deal.... cycling sponsorship is such that they are still going to get some value out of Froome...almost regardless of results the signing has already and...

True...but i guess ahead of the announcement this has been in the thinking of Brailsford and the team for a while now so id be surprised if Carapaz hasn't been preparing for this in one way or another.

Sensible decision i think....he looked so far off the pace at the Dauphine that it was impossible to see him picking up so much in such a short space of time. I guess the same applies to Thomas, but i must admit his omission from the team came as an even bigger surprise.

Bernal didnt look Stellar at the Dauphine and with talk of his back problems Carapaz could well see this as an opportunity to step in as Plan B if Egan isn't performing or worse still has to pull out.

I don't think the two can be compared at all....the Ketogenic diet is a trade off between the body being almost devoid of carbohydrates which is obviously detrimental to performance at certain intensities, and the increased availability of ketones as a replacement energy source, albeit one which...

If you were not entertained by Stage 19 of the Giro, entertainment instigated purely by one man, then you were either not watching or you are so anti Froome that you refuse to acknowledge the entertainment provided on that day.

No, it’s really not...being fit and being healthy are not the same thing always. Just shocking news, always seemed such a passionate and funny guy, full of life. RIP.
