Tour de France Poll: Hautacam climbing time

There's no guarantee that Contador and Froome would have climbed faster than Nibali. Nibali in 2014 had better numbers than Froome in 2013 on climbs between 20-40 minutes, and his Hautacam performance was really excellent

    Tadej Pogacar and Mauro Giannetti

I wouldn't push this narrative too far, he won l'Avenir and had plenty of other stand-out performances for an 18/19yo in a pretty mediocre continental team. Compare that to Almeida, who he beat at l'Avenir, who had a much more professional set-up at Axeon. He was an excellent u23 rider, this...

Tour de France Tour de France 2025 Stage 13: Loudenvielle – Peyragudes (10.9k, ITT)

I meant 9km at (slightly above) 8%, apologies, and it was just under 2km of flat. Still, very similar.

Tour de France Tour de France 2025 Stage 13: Loudenvielle – Peyragudes (10.9k, ITT)

I think the best comparison is the Alpe di Siusi MTT in 2016 - 10.8km v 10.9km; 2.5km flat v 2.9km flat; 8.3km at 8% v 8km at 7.9%. It's almost identical, and that one also came after an excellent and hard Dolomite stage. We had OK gaps there, about a minute separating the top ten, and 2:10 to...

Teams & Riders Tadej Pogačar discussion thread

Two more Tours and he will hold the record for most stage wins.

    Tadej Pogacar and Mauro Giannetti

6.74 w/kg for 35 minutes per Lanterne Rouge. Lower level than last year, though not by much.

    Tadej Pogacar and Mauro Giannetti

Still a superb effort from Pogacar, given his lack of teammates/lack of drafting.

Tour de France Tour de France 2025 Stage 12: Auch - Hautacam (180.6k)

Took half a minute off his time to account for that

Tour de France Tour de France 2025 Stage 12: Auch - Hautacam (180.6k)

I do actually think that Hautacam in 2022 and 2024 puts Nibali's performance into perspective - even in a much faster era, the time stands up fairly well.

Tour de France Tour de France 2025 Stage 12: Auch - Hautacam (180.6k)

Well, Vingegaard at his peak would still be 45s+ behind.

Tour de France Tour de France 2025 Stage 12: Auch - Hautacam (180.6k)

In fairness Nibali's time was maybe his single best climbing performance, and was really quite good for the mid-2010s.

Tour de France Tour de France 2025 Stage 12: Auch - Hautacam (180.6k)

No Vingegaard climbed it in like 37:40, like Tadej in 2022. First mountain stage, so maybe anomalous as some people underperform but compared to Nibali/2022, he should have been much fresher.

Tour de France Tour de France 2025 Stage 12: Auch - Hautacam (180.6k)

Nibali would have come second, Vingegaard's level is not that good (though I wonder how much it was a mental issue).

Slower than Big Mig?! And this is your GOAT, someone who can't climb faster than a TT specialist?
