Teams & Riders The "MVP" Mathieu Van der Poel Road Discussion Thread

Gilbert 2011 was way more impressive than VdP. Top 10 in all 4 monuments he raced and actually contended for the win in 3 of them.

Rembo doesn't need a team, guy is a one man army;)

Those aren't on the same level as Asgreen, Stybar, Lampaert, Jungels, Alaphilippe. It's not the worst team, but a champ like Van Aert deserves better than that imo, of course no one knew Van Aert would take off like he did this season. If Jumbo Visma keeps chasing a Tour de France victory after...

Alaphilippe's contract with DQS expires end of 2021 as does Van Aert's contract at Jumbo Visma, Van Aert is probably more interesting for the Belgian sponsors compared to Alaphilippe. Bennett his contract also expires in 2021 so they could take Van Aert to le Tour for the sprints and the green...

He didn,'t say Van Aert should change teams though, just make it clear that with his abilities they should build a team around him for the classics, which Jumbo probably won't do since they mostly care about the tour. If he's smart he goes to DQS after next season imo. Jumbo Visma doesn't offer...

2020 World Championships - now confirmed for Imola, Italy.

I think he means Boonen was already established as one of the worlds best classic riders when he became World Champion, whilst Pedersen may have the talent to follow up his world title with a few monuments, but it's not a given.

What a beast, most versatile rider since Sean Kelly. Can't wait for the cobbled classics, mano a mano against VDP, my undies are getting moist just thinking about it.

Only 2 examples come to mind eh, one of them being in some mickey mouse race, lol. I watch the Tour and the Ardennes and he's never been animating those races like real champions do, not one heroic victory in a race that matters for Valverde, relying on your sprint and following the best is of...

A known doper denying he ever doped just makes him a lying piece of sh*t, how's that for a great personality huh. Show me those memorable Valverde solo attacks or Valverde sacrificing his chance at a podium to try everything in his power to take the win, off all the riders who dominated cycling...

2020 World Championships - now confirmed for Imola, Italy.

How can anyone who calls himself a fan of cycling not like Alaphilippe, he's one of the most atractive riders in the peloton. To top it off this comes from a Valverde fan who is one of the most boring riders in the peloton and made a career wheelsucking to the finish and then outsprinting...

    2013 Liège-Bastogne-Liège, 21/04/13 257km

I agree he didn't look that good, yes he was able to follow Sagan but he barely made it to Sagan's wheel, a Gilbert in peak form should be able to do that with 3 fingers up his a$$.

    2013, Brabantse Pijl - La Flèche Brabançonne 10/04/13 200km (1.HC)

He was **** in 2012, but he was the strongest in 2010 and 2011. So yeah, he has dominated in LBL in recent years. Add to that that he has won Lombardy in 2009 and 2010, AGR in 2010 and 2011 and FW in 2011. Yeah, Gilbert clearly hasn't proven himself in hilly classics in the last years, these...
