This is nothing new. UAE need an assertive leader to avoid looking like a headless chicken. Tadej has both the legs and the full trust of his teammates that he will deliver. That makes it a lot easier for them tactically.

It's becoming more clear that the talk of UAE having too many cooks in the kitchen was premature. The only cook in this kitchen is Tadej.

Looking at how Carapaz flew away from Yates/Del Toro made me think he's going to win this Giro and then he gets dropped by Pellizzari, who was on the attack for most of the climb. I don't know what to think anymore.

To be honest considering his age and how much he crashes every year i'm impressed that he's still able to compete at this level. His body must be pretty worn down at this point.

These conditions really favor Pogacar so i'm not surprised.

If he wanted to race those races he would. He has the freedom to choose what he wants to race with some exceptions (UAE, TdF).

He basically confirmed in an interview after the race that he'll do both Fleche and Liege.

Today same thing happened as on stage 11 of the TdF last year. He overestimated his abilities by going from so far out and didn't have enough in the end. Still was the strongest rider but he'll need to race more defensively next time as his form is fading.

Does he have to race the Dauphine? Tour of Slovenia is an option. It's an easier race and only 5 stages. He could then add the national championships.

Amstel and Liege are almost a 100km longer races and a lot harder of course. He's looking good but Amstel will be more of an indicator of his chances in Liege.

His limitation is VDP's existence. Without VDP he could have potentially won all 5 monuments this year. But that's of course just a hypothetical.
