    Best classic rider

I specifically wrote "You can argue all you want about one winning more than the other" to try and avoid these type of replies. It's about how similar riders are, physically, in terms of ability to ride a bike, irrespective of the number of wins. But if we're going down that road, I'm not sure...

Amstel Gold Race 2026, April 19

I remember a TTT in the Vuelta at the start, where the team car was trailing the riders no more than 5 meters. The DS obviously knew the aerodynamic gains were significant. Motorbikes will be less, yes, but e.g. the camerabike riding alongside with sidewind could have quite some impact, and...

    Best classic rider

Cancellara is more similar to WvA than to MvdP imho: Big engine, elite TT, king of the peloton in the TdF, the odd good result in a 1-week race that suits them, cobbled classics and MSR and good in WC / olympic races, and always racing with a big target on the back. You can argue all you want...

Amstel Gold Race 2026, April 19

With regards to the 5 monuments and what next, it's like naming your favorite things to eat: You mention Risotto alla Milanese (MSR), Ossobuco (Lombardia), Carbonnade Flamande (PR), Vol-au-vent (Flanders) and Waffles (Liege). Next some people are adamant they want you to include a croquette...

Amstel Gold Race 2026, April 19

I'm struggling to find many who can come close to Evenepoel, but Evenepoel has struggled to drop e.g. Jorgenson in certain races. Maybe Hermans, Johannesen and Van Wilder as 1 or 2 star outsiders? I rate some of those higher than e.g. Laporte and Godon in this race.

Amstel Gold Race 2026, April 19

No idea why this topic is about the biggest race after the 5 monuments, but just going by normalized power, GW is pretty huge. It's like the sprinter's classic for those that can survive a decent cobbled climb without going too much over the limit.

Teams & Riders Official Wout Van Aert thread

It's close and still very far away. Just look at the speeds... The front went invariably faster on cobbles (before and after WvA's attack). MvdP and the ones able to follow were always faster in between the secteurs, but not so much on the cobbles. The reason is obvious: (mainly) Pog and WvA...

Teams & Riders The "MVP" Mathieu Van der Poel Road Discussion Thread

I think MvdP was really good in the 3 monuments and had, as always in the last couple of years, the potential to win all 3 of them with highest chances in Roubaix (without bad luck he would have been in the mix, 100% sure) but also chances in MSR and Flanders if riding a bit more conservative...

    Paris-Roubaix 2026, one day monument, April 12

There's simply a limit on what Pog can achieve in a flat race with his all-in / long-solo riding style, and he hit the wall twice in Roubaix. People can argue other riders aren't as crazy as he is, but why should they be? And some races are won by a tiny bit of tactics (and luck and no...

    Paris-Roubaix 2026, one day monument, April 12

You really seem to try hard to stretch it. From what I saw, the pulling was around 40% WvA en 60% Pog. And the main culprit was Pog: he tried 4 times to drop WvA: on Bersee (just after WvA's attack), Mons-en-Pevele, the uphill after Mons-en-Pevele and Carrefour. He also tried to put pressure on...

    Paris-Roubaix 2026, one day monument, April 12

There is a difference between getting the draft from a team car and going 70K/hr back to the peloton, and sitting behind the team car that is in a convoy of cars, behind the peloton. If you're sitting in between cars, you're not doing anything wrong. If you're doing a Zingle / Nils Eekhoff...

    Paris-Roubaix 2026, one day monument, April 12

The UAE car passed before WvA got going again. I don't know what other cars passed / were in that convoy but it seems to me WvA all cars aheard, while Pog got going while some cars were still passing, so more of a ride in between the cars for Pog. And also just a quicker bike change, due to...

    Rate Paris-Roubaix 2026

This edition gets: 6.5/10 and there is nothing and no one that can convince me it should rank any higher. I love WvA but a lot of ratings are largely based on how people feel about WvA winning. In order to be a bit more objective, I developed a scoring system to rate the race. Far from perfect...

    Paris-Roubaix 2026, one day monument, April 12

So much happened in the race but I can't help thinking: WvA had his usual share of mechanics (2 flats). So even though he won, he and his team should seriously look at his material / riding, because he always seem to have flats in Roubaix. Watching slo-mo footage going through corners, you see...
