Is pro racing getting more dangerous?

Tough to get a balanced sample to this survey question if holding it on the same day as the Mäder tragedy

    Contador vs. Froome

Re: Re: Sorry to restate what has been said many times before, but re the 'coming out of no-where'. As has been said from many sources Froome had, before and after Bizharia been producing numbers worthy of a GT winner. before Bizharia he had issues of overweightness, great difficulty riding in...

Teams & Riders Chris Froome Discussion Thread.

Re: Re: His point, I believe, is that the very best riders tend to go very quickly from coming to some prominence to attaining a top top level. Examples of this would be Quintana, Landa, Aru, Bardet, Pinot etc who were on a high level were quickly after coming to prominence.

Teams & Riders Brothers in (crank) arms - Yates Discussion Thread

Re: Probably partly that and the classic problem of it being hard to attacked when you're fighting to not be dropped. I like to think as years pass and they become stronger they'll be able to attack at the tour in the same way they do in non-tour races.

    Romain Bardet Discussion Thread

Re: Not sure I agree with this. For sure Froome hasn't risen solo 10-15km full gas, but the pace set by the sky train, as demonstrated by the climbing times being set this tour, has been very high, meaning Froome has done the final climb full gas on pretty much every climb, just exhausting...

Teams & Riders Chris Froome Discussion Thread.

Re: I largely agree with you, there's a definite difference between winning in style and winning by holding on, far too much indurain not enough Hinault this time. Don't think it's anything to do with Froome, more just the closeness of the race meaning he couldn't do daredevil attacking ala...

    Romain Bardet Discussion Thread

A tour to be proud of. Gave his all, got the absolute maximum he could possibly have done, and attacked sensibly. Problem for him, and for aggressive racing in general, is the sky train going at a pace as fast as he would ride if he attacked out of the bunch and went solo, making attacking long...

Contador 2008 vs Froome 2016, who had the better year

In terms of the rarity of the Giro-Vuelta double, it does strike me that for most of recent history, the top top riders (be it armstrong, Ullrich, Froome, Quintana bar one season in which he did Giro-Vuelta and a crash may have prevented the double) have overwhelmingly chosen to rise the tour...

Men Elite Road Race - UCI RWC Doha 2016

Size of that group and how the race has been ridden, if a couple of strong riders got away I'd give them a very decent chance

2016 Vuelta a España, stage 11: Colunga > Peña Cabarga

For me, winning a race involves successfully doing several things. One of those is completing the course in the shortest time. Another is passing all drugs tests. Failing a drugs test means you have failed to win the race. Whether others are doping or not is irrelevant, if you fail to pass all...

2016 Vuelta a España, stage 3: Marín > Mirador de Ézaro

Am curious to see how Kwiatkowski does here. With him missing the tour, showing good form in the prep races and having a 39km tt that is right up his street I think he could put in a strong showing at this Vuelta

    Vuelta Predictions

Re: Re: Froome being a top GC contender comes not from his train but from him producing the most watts/kg out of all GC riders on the final climb. If someone can produce x watts on the final climb with a train they can also produce those x watts without the train. The only thing that could...

Teams & Riders Julian Alaphilippe Discussion Thread

Re: Julian Alaphilippe Anyone know what happened on the descent? Before the Nibali, Heneo went down he'd got a little got on the rest and was gaining fast, then next time I saw him he was behind the chasing group. Did he get held up by Nibali/Heneo or hade a tumble of his own?
