Re: Re:
Italy will have a strong team and it looks like they're riding for Ulissi but I think they definitely need to protect Viviani as well. He's shown in Britain that he has good form and the race may well come down to a sprint. The finish is very technical and if it's all together in the...
Agreed about the leadout trains (or lack thereof). Germany will have a strong team but we'll see if they're well-drilled enough to keep it together and lead out Greipel. Degenkolb will probably be a joint leader too but he seems to be lacking a little something in the Vuelta.
Re: Re:
I don't live far from Richmond and I rode the course this weekend and came away with the conclusion that Greipel is a big favorite because I don't think climbing ability matters much. The "climbs" on this course are really just short hills that I don't think will dislodge any...
Funny, I was just talking to a co-worker about this and he asked if they hydrate with an IV. I assume they do on occasion so now I'm wondering if this will be Contador's next excuse.
On a somewhat lighter note, this reminds me of an old Seinfeld episode where Jerry has to take a lie detector test and George tells him "just remember, if you believe it then it's true".
Talk about rough transfers - I remember back in the mid-late 80s going to see a "Tour of the Americas" race in South Florida. I think they started by having a couple of stages in South America then finished with a few stages in Florida. Saw some big name pros there but that setup obviously...
Cool to see some discussion of Ben King on here. I've raced with him and his dad. I've also been dropped by him on the local group rides many times, especially when the road goes uphill (and even back when he was a skinny hairy-legged 15 year old). Don't know if he'll make it to the big time but...
I've got a good, if convoluted, story. When I was in high school my best friend was a bit of a troublemaker and at some point his mom had enough and kicked him out of the house. He went to live with an ex-girlfriend's dad who had been sort of a father figure for him. But he wanted to keep going...
Or as a result of poor tactics. I was just talking to a friend about the dropped chain incident and he brought up a good point - that it didn't make a lot of sense for AS to attack at that point anyway because even if he did gap AC, there was a lot of downhill left for AC and company to chase...
They used to have the red jersey that was just for the intermediate sprints but they dropped that (and the combination jersey) mainly for the sake of simplicity I think.
