I'd say the mainstays of doping are still oxygen vectors. The logical argument says protected riders at this point. I don't think that in today's scientific age that feigning ignorance by the UCI would work anymore.

How could catching dopers help the sport financially? Look at other sports like tennis. The very very few that are caught are absolute nobodies. To the public, tennis doesn't have a problem vs cycling.

Doping obviously hurts the sport financially. Why would the UCI ever implicate another top rider after the whole bert/la fiasco? They would seem to benefit greatly from miracle stories and such. As I understand it, the UCI has the system set up be the only entity who could implicate a rider...

IMO, if there was ever a "protected rider", Cancellara would be it. Voigt would be a close second. Both have been around forever, know how to behave themselves, and don't ask for too much. They are satisfied with their position in the cycling world and are both immensely popular. The UCI would...
