    1st Road Bike Advice

Yes, the consensus seems to be that the 105 groupset is the sweet spot of performance versus durability. Reassuringly I have now heard from a few people who have used the entry level Shimano components with no significant problems over a couple of years. So probably the biggest factor is...

    1st Road Bike Advice

Thanks again for all the advice. Does anyone out there have long term experience with regard to the entry level Shimano 2300 groupset and whether the components have stood the test of time reasonably well or not?

Thanks very much for the feedback so far, it's much appreciated. One concern I do have is on the component front. As I understand it the Allez packs the entry level 2300 Shimano groupset while the Boardman seems to be the next step up with the Sora groupset. Not sure how much difference...

    1st Road Bike Advice

I got into cycling about 18 months ago and have been riding a Scott Sportster P5 hybrid on increasingly difficult routes for lesiure/fitness. I ride roughly twice a week with each ride varying from 10 miles to 50 miles depending on time and inclination. I especially enjoy a few challenging...

Heads up: Cavendish has phone in on Radio 5 right now

Also Wiggin's emphatically tweeted that Tour 2012 is a priority: "1 year to go to London 2012, but more importantly 11months to go the 2012 TDF!" followed by "The TDF is the start of my olympics 5 weeks of pain!" For what its worth.

    Tour de Pologne 2.WT 31/07 - 06/08

Anyone care to predict how many metres out Kittel will start celebrating - I'm going for 50m this time :p

Heads up: Cavendish has phone in on Radio 5 right now

Not saying it's necessarilly significant but interesting he used the words "go to" rather than "be in": "I want to go to the best place to help me win". May mean nothing but it's tricky to use totally neutral language when you know the outcome of something you are trying to hide...

    Tour de Pologne 2.WT 31/07 - 06/08

Belatedly seen stage 2's finish, Kittel has to be in the running for earliest celebration in a bunch finish?

    Gilbert's TdF Disappointing?

No doubt he reads the forums with this thread giving him the necessary motivation to stroll away with San Sebastien :p Considering some question marks over recovery it's interesting to see the latest win on the back of the Tour plus a number of (albeit limited effort/distance) crits. Wish I...

    Gilbert's TdF Disappointing?

Wow I make that 3 posts versus 5 pages now :D Just want to say thanks to all for giving me another fix of TdF (chit chat) that's dulled the post race pain.

    Gilbert's TdF Disappointing?

Bag - see the bottom of that post. AussieGoddess reminded me that as well as VdB they lost 2 other riders early doors and were down to 6 so conceeded that I was being rather harsh :D

    Gilbert's TdF Disappointing?

In some respects I agree that this gives more weight to pursuing green the way Gilbert did, arguably at the cost of more stage wins (see above). Elimination as well as a crash etc could have put paid to Cav or Rojas or both. However, as I understand it the rules were followed. They...

    Gilbert's TdF Disappointing?

Perhaps without the crashes they would have had the manpower to try and control a few key stages (and only these key stages) where Gilbert stood a very good chance of leaving the rest for dead on an uphill finish. Surely it represented their best chance of victory given Cav's domination of any...

    Gilbert's TdF Disappointing?

Thanks for pointing this out by focusing on the fact that VdB crashed out I had completely forgotten about the loss of 2 further riders. This explains a lot, thanks :)
