More on the Betsy Andreu & Lance. Now with Sally Jenkins

How is the testimony of the Andreus in the SCA case self-incriminating ?

Official "be nice" Lance Armstrong thread

I'm not so sure about this. In a clean field he doesn't have 6 of his team around him on the final climb of the day riding such a fast tempo that no-one can attack. In a clean field he climbs like he did pre-cancer in the tour - below average. If you mean he still wins the classics then I can...

Official "be nice" Lance Armstrong thread

I'm not sure you understand some of the fundamentals of bike racing. Climbing strength basically comes from a strong sustainable power to weight ratio, TT strength comes basically from a strong sustainable power to frontal area. Just because Andy Schleck can kick Armstrong's behind in the...

Official "be nice" Lance Armstrong thread

Hey, it wasn't me that stated that the Kazakhs would have a 1-2-3 if AC hadn't dropped the tiring AK on stage 17.

Official "be nice" Lance Armstrong thread

Let's play some more hypotheticals. What if Armstrong hadn't been dragged aroung the TTT by 3 demonstrably superior time trialers (AC, LL, AK - see results of Monaco and Annecy), and instead of gaining 20 secs on Wiggins he lost 20 secs to Wiggins, then he's not on the podium.

Radio Interview, Armstrong admits he is finished.

Jayarbie, Just shows you cant trust those feelings. Some shining moment. You should take off the livestrong wrist band and detach emotionally before making Armstrong predictions.

    Rice = the new EPO

Hey, its worked for me! Went gluten-free at the end of last season. This season I have much improved results and have lasted longer into the season. But its a PITA to find gluten-free food and beer.

Radio Interview, Armstrong admits he is finished.

Well, I don't have your 25 years experience of watching pro racing, but I did see the stage 1 ITT and it looked to me that Armstrong did go all out in that stage, and mismanaged his effort by going off too hard, losing time in the fast section from the tunnel entrance to the finish line compared...

Radio Interview, Armstrong admits he is finished.

But what is it you learned in those 25 years of watching that makes you believe that Armstrong will beat all 3 of Wiggins, Martin and Kloeden in the TT? Or is this just a faith thing?

The Unofficial GC Standings (minus the TTT)

Do you remember the year Armstrong won the Tour with Hamilton, Vaughters, Andreu and Livingston pulling him?

Radio Interview, Armstrong admits he is finished.

Not sure what you are basing this thought on. The latest data point we have is his 10th place finish in the opening ITT, which contained a cat 4 climb, whereas the Annecy route is longer and contains a cat 3 climb. Why do you think this is so much better suited to him - at least 7 places better...

Official thread TdF Stage 15 Pontarlier - Verbier - 207.5 km

After returning from the woodshed I hope Armstrong has the class to apologize to Contador for his "he's got a lot to learn" comment, and to Sastre and the Schlecks for his "2008 tour was a joke". Loved the stage - made my day.

    VO2 Max and FTP power

I would have expected more, much more, than 1450W for 10 second MMP from Boonen.

    VO2 Max and FTP power

I used the 1 hour record data to show that BigBoat's estimation that 420W FTP is the limit for non-blood boosted efforts was very consistent with the power estimations provided in the quoted paper. After all the definition of FTP is maximal average power over 1 hour. The rolling resistance...

    VO2 Max and FTP power

OK, I was skeptical of BigBoats 420W ceiling until I just looked up the world hour record and power estimates in the Kyle-Bassett paper in "High Tech Cycling" They adjust to sea-level equivalent power for all the altitude efforts. The highest value pre-EPO was Merckx at 429W. Post EPO we have...
