Teams & Riders The "MVP" Mathieu Van der Poel Road Discussion Thread

I think that joke exists in every country. Where I'm from in Germany we say that about beer in cologne.

He said that Belgian fans where not only booing him but throwing cups of beer and even urine at him. Not sure if that was true though.

Tour de France Tour de France 2023, stage 7: Mont-de-Marsan - Bordeaux, 169.9k

I feel girmay gets pushed around too much. As bad as it sounds I think the next time pushes him around he should lean against him hard even to the point of risking a crash. You don't want to see a crash but when people see that he dares to pay that price they might get a little more wary and...

Inpeak powermeter doesn't fit my crank

I was able to make it work. I found out it actually wasn't a 30 mm spindle but a 24mm with a difference locking System. Like this one https://www.bikeworkshmb.com/product/fsa-comet-hd-modular-crankset-381259-1.htm So I did need a new right crank and chainrings to install it.

He was always a rider who took big risks, some of the downhill stuff he did was insane.

Actually I think this is a sign that he doesn't do it for the money. He could have made money as a tv presenter or something like that, I think it's more that his ego can't let go. The crash 2019 essentially ended his career before he was ready mentally and he probably hoped to get one last...

Contador wasn't riding in the grupetto though, he still made top 10 placements in GCs in his final years

He certainly is a bit delusional and unable to accept that his age and injuries don't allow him to be the rider he wants to be so he is even searching excuses for why it doesn't work. That is a bit of a bad look but it is not uncommon among champion athletes. Most real champions do not have...

Are tall riders at a disadvantage for GC wins?

Heights definitely have stabilized but there are still many people alive that are born in the 40s and 50s. For example in Germany according to the last data from 21 the average man age 20-25 is 181.4 while the average 60-65 yo is 178.4 with the average being 179. So we can overall probably add...

Are tall riders at a disadvantage for GC wins?

You have to consider older people are shorter though, so national averages don't say much, you have to look at under 40 year Olds.

Are tall riders at a disadvantage for GC wins?

The space from handlebar to saddle is adjustable but UCI rules are putting a limit to this (Saddle position and length of aero Bars are regulated by UCI). So a taller rider might have to be more upright to fit the UCI rules. you would be right if there where no UCI rules and you could still...

Are tall riders at a disadvantage for GC wins?

obviously overall weight is much more important than height. There are some tall guys that are very skinny like frank schleck who was like 6'1 145 but of course that could lead to have less strength in the legs than a guy who is the same weight but 3 inches shorter because the shorter guy can...

Are tall riders at a disadvantage for GC wins?

White Europeans under 40 are more like 180cm on average though. Nordic Europeans like belgium, norway, denmark, Germany or Holland which make up a large chunk of the professional field are even taller and more like over 180 on average in that age group and Demographic (posted a link of young...
