Great climbing performance on today's stage by the Don, attacking early and putting nice time into Lopez and Pogacar. I dont think he can beat Roglic but hopefully a 2nd place overall is achievable. Yes the course is in my home region and like you say it doesnt have the altitude metres of...

I would say he did a good tour but I still cannot say what the objective was , I guess he stealthed his way into the top 10 by staying with the GC group in the mountain stages. Without throwing time away unnecessarily on stage 6 by sitting up after riding on the front to La Planche he would have...

Not sure if it has been mentioned but Valverde has been posting rides on Strava for the last few months under the name Bala Balin.

Great ride today, I can't remember a time he could drop Contador on a proper mtf. It's a shame he couldn't ride Paris Nice.

In Rio he explained he had an off day and so he rode in support of Rodriguez to position him for the final climb. Although it's great to see him race all year rode , I think he should race less and target specific events in order to achieve more wins. He will be 37 next year so possibly a...

    2016 TdF, Stage 2: Saint-Lô → Cherbourg-en-Cotentin (183km)

Valverde generally goes very well after racing a grand tour then resting up, always strong in La Vuelta and he did good rides in the Nationals. He's also not racing for GC this year so he can go all in on select stages . He was the best of the rest last year on Mur de Bretagne beating Sagan...

I hope he rides like this in the mountains https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lTEVbVH_XGc Full gas for Quintana to shred the group and then win the stage !!

I would rather see him skip the Vuelta and target the end of season classics. He can win the Giro di Lombardia if he's in top shape.

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/valverde-vows-to-help-nairo-quintana-win-the-tour-de-france/ Valverde insists he's at the tour to help Nairo win the overall , hopefully this is the case as Quintana looks good for it this year. However considering the form he usually shows at La Vuelta after...

All the stars aligned for Alejandro today as I thought Nibali would be a real threat for the podium. Finally a podium place 10 years after his first stage win at Courcheval.

He does love the heat. Hard to say whether this victory is a sign of good form though as he didn't compete against other big names. Will be good to see him don the Spanish jersey in the tour.

    Alejandro Valverde Discussion Thread

Its safe to say Alejandro is pretty much back to his best form , able to be competitive over 250+ km and still have the punch at the end , which he didn't have for the Ardenne classics. I would like to see him ride the Giro Di Lombardia as he is perfectly suited to this race.
