Why not just hand the title over to the person with the highest Vo2 max?

Can't just think about Vo2 max, gotta take into account efficiency as well. Also some peoples thresholds are a higher percentage of Vo2 max than others. Then there's all the tactics and techinical skills that make cycling interesting to watch so you might as well run the race and hand the title...

    Official thread: Tour de Suisse

I've done some riding in Switzerland and I know how easy it is to find totally ball breaking climbs to ride up! Next year I'm designing the TdS route :p. 4000m of climbing per stage :D.

    Official thread: Tour de Suisse

Total joke. FC will win todays TT and the overall. Not only have the mountain stages been easy but FC has been climbing suspiciously well. Would have expected him to have been dropped for at least 30 seconds on Crans Montana yesterday. It's like Jens Voight winning the Tour of Germany i.e...

Four more implicated in T-Mobile ring

Does look like T-Mobile was running hot for a while, and there was no way Kloden wasn't in on it. Astana would do well to sack him, keep the attention away from the other dirty fish they have on their team.

    UCI targeted riders (bio passport)

This is going to produce so many law suits even Lance will wince at the numbers....... Lets hope the UCIs lawyers are up for it.

Official thread: le Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré

Good effort by Cadel, Valverde looked toasted in the end. Contador matching every move and didn't both with the sprint at the end because he didn't need to? Would have been nice to see him try a serious attack rather than just marking his podium spot. Nice try by Gesink as well.

    Tour de France Average Speeds

Check out the final TT course in the 2008 Giro. Very similar profile, i.e short and downhill. Much better equipment, same last day of the race type thing. Average speed 2.3kph slower than LeMond.

    Tour de France Average Speeds

Well if they where racing in this era they'd be on just as much gear as everyone else. Hinault and Lemond would destroy the field in a lot of races being able to win classics or Grand Tours depending on what they focussed their seasons on. Don't rate Fignon quite as much but he'd be a consistent...

    Andreas Kloden going to TDF

Maybe this is why LA isn't bailing out Astana for it's financial problems? Already spent too much money paying off the UCI. Given that they've told Valverde not to come letting Kloden seems like a bit of a **** take. The mixture of no transparency and inconsistent decisions really ruins any...

    TdF Physiology

Excellent article, thanks for posting. Interesting to see Bahamontes putting out 6.1 W/kg all the way back in 1958! I think I'll take some time to read this one in detail. Edit: Interesting to know that the EPO era started in 1987-1990 when it's more commonly quoted as the early 90's.

    Speech by Greg Lemond

He finished 7th in 1991 and then DNFed in 1992. Indurain finished 11th in 1996 then didn't race in 1997. Could list a whole load more riders who hit their peak and then declined rapidly but is there really any point? Attributing his decline to other people doping more isn't really going to...

    The Tour Ladder

Rogers 8th place in the Giro is about where his ability puts him. His world time trial titles are something he peaked for, he never seems to perform that consistently in other TTs. He's a bit like say, David Arroyo, consistent top 10 finisher, would be doing really well if he cracked the top 5...

Funny statment by Vaughters refuting Kohl

I wouldn't call Larssons power in that instance particularly suspicious. The big problem you have with judging peoples power in time trials is you'd need to stick them in a wind tunnel and calculate their drag coefficient to know anything. For example Zabriskie could have been putting out less...

    Speech by Greg Lemond

Lemond looses points on the credibility front simply by having been a professional cyclist during an era when doping was rife just perhaps not as effective as it is now. EPO had started to come in in the last couple of years of his career and blood transfusions where around as well. Everything...

    Prediction Game

Surely has to be Valverde or Contador on Mont Ventoux today. Time gap won't be big though, Contador is playing it safe and Valverde just can't drop people like that.
