We hope all of you have a great holiday season and wonderful Christmas. Thanks so much for being part of the Cycling News community in 2025 and beyond!
Oh wow, I didn't know it went that far back. That's some interesting information. I was mainly referring to what the term means nowadays, so I was wrong in writing it was the origin of the name. I suppose the confusion for many people mainly comes from the term being ungrammatical to begin with...
Re:
Well, being a Flandrien has little to do with being Flemish (= being a Fleming). And Gilbert is a Walloon indeed. 'Flandriens' is used when referring to powerful cyclists that are very combative and excel in harsh weather conditions, making them very suitable to do well in the Flemish...
Mads Pedersen won the 20.6km ITT in the Tour du Poitou Charentes (2.1) yesterday, 26 seconds ahead of Castroviejo. Not a bad ride at all, I think. Going into the final day of the race he now leads the GC with a 35 second bonus.
Re: Re:
I think Flamin is right. You have to tilt your head to the left to see it correctly. The band above the red is rather grey than black and seems to be the seam.
That being said, still an odd choice to start from the bottom and go up. Probably because the black band of the flag would...
I was thinking about Power as well.
Maybe not as "fresh" as some of the names mentioned here, but I'm anticipating a bit of a breakthrough season for Davide Villella after his showings at the end of this season.
And the resurrection of Lachlan Morton, still only 25 next year?

If I'm not mistaken, they cannot compete if they have started in the elite race the year before either. That's what I meant. Maybe "before" would've been a better choice of words than "previously". My bad.
Anyway, I don't know about the jersey either. If there is one, they would...
Re: Re:
I think they can nowadays, as long as they're under 23 and haven't raced in the elite WC previously. Erik Baska (Tinkoff), for example, is participating in the U23 race this year.
Probably about 3 years, at least.
I had been searching online to learn more about up-and-coming riders when this topic (viewtopic.php?f=6&t=17068&start=40) drew me in. Haven't stopped reading the forum since.
Not until earlier this year I gathered the courage to make a small contribution, but...
Not sure if this is the right topic for it (because it does not only concern the Ardennes races), but since it has been brought up here again...
I also think smaller teams (six man teams?) might be a possible solution to multiple problems, such as making races more entertaining, the discussion...
Re:
I get the same impression when it comes to Joe Dombrowski. He seems to love life as a cyclist a little too much. Enjoying the lifestyle, the travelling, the adventure indeed... I think it's a wonderful trait to have as a person, but maybe not ideal in order to become an absolute top rider...
