    Tour de l'Avenir 2016, August 20-27

Re: Re: Lucas Hamilton was actually quite unwell at the start of the race and only came good in the last couple of stages. He is the strongest climber when in form for the team and as you saw is one of the strongest climbers for his age in the world. it should be noted that he was also...

    British politics

Re: This bit stood out. Speaking in the Commons, Bevin insisted that Great Britain was still a great power. In private, he was contradicted by Sir Henry Tizard, scientist, Whitehall middleman, and a patriot whose work ensuring that radar was installed around the coastline by 1940, had been...

Hot racing coming up in Australia

Froome covered an attack. He didn't work with the Avanti rider, just followed. Sky should have simply rode tempo if they were not wanting to open the possibility of a Froome win - by letting him cover the break with a strong time trailer, there was always going to be a chance Froome would stay...

Hot racing coming up in Australia

Not really that odd. He had a teammate away with Froome and yet sky were on the front chasing. Keeping it to 40 seconds? Pat called him a selfish c--t, partly because he likely was and secondly to sledge him to try and give his teammate a chance. You may not like it but it's not strange.

2016 Tour Down Under WT January 19-24 Adelaide

Re: Ewan won the u19 TT championship in Australia, won the national u23 road race on the tough Buninyong circuit and then followed up with second in the seniors the next year on the same course. He was second in the u23 world championships in 2014 on what was not an easy course. He is 21 - no...

2016 Aussie Road & ITT Nationals

Re: Because they initially went in the break to put pressure on BMC (Porte and Dennis). Hepburn had been warming up on the climb for 45 minutes before the start so it was obvious that he was designated for the break. When Bobridge went it was confusion for Greenedge. Docker half dropped...

    Chain lube tips

    Chain lube tips

I just use Prolink dry lube now. I am a bit over the top with it, but chains and cassettes last a very long time with this routine and you bike stays very clean. Prolink is self cleaning. You need to have a completely clean chain to start off with - getting it right from the start is...

    pro gear thread

Sorry champ, you said "had mech go into his wheels, mech snapped in half". I am really sorry that you hate when people make assumptions, but I think from your description that it was a reasonable assumption to make - perhaps you should have been clearer about what you were talking about? Now...

    pro gear thread

"I ride alongside guys using Campy all you hear is click click click. One of my friends has had his 11 speed record rear mech go into his wheels. Mech snapped in half. It was only a few rides in." That's because it was not adjusted properly, not because there is any flaw in the mech.

    Backwards?

Re: He would almost certainly have had a lighter gear on that wheel and would have then swapped over to his disk once he needed to once he was warmed up. Just makes it easier than changing sprockets if he has the spare wheel there.

    Tools - Getting Started.

I am pretty proud that in 40 years of bike riding I have never taken a bike to the shop. I did used to get my wheels built by a guy with more skill than me, but everything else I have done myself. This is my basic tool kit made up of bits and pieces I have purchased, found along the way. The...

Porte Penalised 2 minutes for getting Clarkes Wheel -Fair?

Re: Re: The fact that the fan gave him pretty much a replica of his bike would suggest that he may have been particularly keen to help Roger's out. :D Your last paragraph kind of proves the point does it not, that a broad reading of the situation and some discretion may be a better way to go...

Porte Penalised 2 minutes for getting Clarkes Wheel -Fair?

Back in 2002 Tour Down Under, when Michael Rogers accepted a bike from a spectator after an incident with one of the race motorcycles, the act was celebrated as a spontaneous reaction by both rider and spectator - it garnered a lot of positive media coverage within both the cycling and...

Porte Penalised 2 minutes for getting Clarkes Wheel -Fair?

Re: Re: In a historical context we will see how this interpretation holds up. I am quite confident that it will do badly.
